Abruzzo & weather

Re: Abruzzo & weather
My Tv was on earlier today and even though I wasn't watching it, my ears pricked up when I heard something about a "coppia di coniugi inglesi ................. I turned around in time to see a lady with a blond bob hairstsyle .......... and then one of the kids changed channels so I missed what they were saying.

We looked at a house in between Roccafinadamo and San Nicole and boy are we glad we decided against it. Beautiful, beautiful area, but so isolated and with fragile access in bad weather. Sounds like Pica is a lot further out. Even where we are now we’ve considered a generator and bought in lots of small things like head torches etc. and have large stocks of wood, gas and sansa (wine and food go without saying). But these are seriously bad events going on there, like I've said I do hope things get better soon.
Our car is 6 ft deep in snow and it's wet heavy snow so even if we spent hours digging it out the driveway is not safe. Thawing very slowly (which in one way is a good thing). Great cascade of snow fell from the roof onto our new woodshed this morning and cracked the roof (that brown plasticky corrugated stuff)-so having spent hours stocking it in the autumn we've spent most of today digging a trench through the snow to barrow the wood into the cantina! No wood-we freeze.More to do tomorrow. Life's a trial aint it? I'm 65 and this is way too much excitement at my age.Hope everyone else in Abruzzo, Marche and Molise are safe. Linseed?

Re: Abruzzo & weather
Just read elsewhere about this and found out some places in the Teramo area have been without electricity for over a week! One person was saying they have been told it may be another week before there electric will be restored. Hope that is not the case....

We're on our 9th day without power and don't expect it'll be coming back soon

They were saying it is the longest outage of electric in Italian history! I wont repeat the world record they stated! We know how dificult a couple of days are and can honestly say we don't know how you are getting by. Hopefully the weather will let up to at least allow you to keep the generator going.

I hope things get back to normal for you very soon.

I don't know how we would cope. Apart from the gas cooker, everything else I have here works with electricity which means the boiler too. It's a gas boiler but it doesn't turn on without electricity and I don't have a wood or pellet stove.
I hope things get back to normal for you very soon.

Generator is on hour in morning and 3 evening which gives us electric lights, internet and runs the pellet stufa. Sadly no hot water, boiling it for washes. Better than the other week when the water was off & we were melting snow for coffee & washing. We have a wood burner and candles for the evening. Neighbours had to kill their pig this afternoon. Poor thing had been stuck in belly deep water for 3 days.
Getting bored now!

This is for Pica and everyone else down there in Abruzzo / Aquila. The guy I follow on the net who "forecasts" (please note he does not predict ) quakes, has given a 48-72 hour warning for your region again. He rightly forecast the 5.2 in Crete yesterday and this will follow on up through Central Italy. He is amazing and almost always spot on. Please be prepared as best you can. I hope he's wrong for your sakes - but its best to be prepared.

Hmm. What's the difference between forecasting and predicting?

Sorry been at work (without access to internet!)
If you go on u tube and type in Dutchsinse, you can either follow his live stream or you can also see/listen to some of his recent forecasts (there should be the one from a couple of days ago with the italy warning).
Heritage - sorry I dont know the answer - he does one or two daily "forecasts" and covers all the globe. He is a scientist with his own theory/software and he is usually spot on. :-)

No eletric yet Pica? They have been putting big generators in to cover big areas here as far as I understand, but perhaps out there they reckon most have their own?
