Victoria and Abdul (2017) - IMDb wonder how Indian audiences would react to it. Ali Fazal makes a confession: It’s hard not to flirt back with Judi Dench | hollywood | Hindustan Times |

Why did Lenin regard cinema as “the most important of all the arts”? — The Russian Student (Although I find that Indian people are always surprised when they find out how small Victoria was, they imagined a tall fierce women!) |

One can be small and fierce :sneaky:

Or big and soft - like Yours Truly !

Re: "Victoria and Abdul"
I enjoyed the film. It certainly portrayed the court circles and entourage round QV as a bunch of racists. i suppose that was the norm in 19th century Britain - only 30 years after the so-called "Mutiny"

Which led me to this -

Link is wonky Oh - and if you are a sworn and serving member of any form of armed forces - regular or mercenary - and you attack and kill your officers and their families, for whatever reason, then that is mutiny - do you have a different name for it? AndyD 8-)₹ P.S I thought the film showed slightly more contemporary understanding than the entertaining but historically silly "Victoria" on TV. |
Re: "Victoria and Abdul"
The term "Indian Mutiny" to describe the events of 1857 is no longer used in India.
Remember that History is written by the Victors. The Victors in India have not turned out to be the British ! |

I like a bit of true grit sans mush. |
Re: "Victoria and Abdul"
Of the films I have seen recently this was one of the more enjoyable. But I still cannot take the portrayal of Victoria as a Polly-Toynbee Guardianista too seriously !
