Default Updating Preferences for Ceremony

Dear All

Does anyone has experience in updating Preferences for Ceremony once citizen application gets approved?

My friend's application has been approved but has not received ceremony letter. Council website shows waiting period of 6 to 9 months. However, he got the information that he can go for "private" ceremony with JP or some local court.

So Qs are:

1: Can someone update Preferences for Ceremony?
2: If yes, can someone attends councils supported "other moded"of ceremony?

Thanks

Private ceremonies are usually reserved for special circumstances such as if there is a medical reason why the applicant cannot go to the ceremony (I know this because we were scheduled to go to the Australia Day ceremony a few years ago but being in the 38° heat with 500 other people would have been too difficult for my Asperger's son. We were granted a private ceremony but had to apply to DIAC)

Thanks Dorothy for valuable comments

What I believe is there are three types of ceremony

1: General - where council will arrange
2: Private - In special cases
3: No media - personal - where person goes to court or to some offier and takes the oath.

So can someone confirmed whether option 3 is actually exist now?

Thanks

Has your friend contacted the council or DIBP?
