I appreciate what you're saying, but from the Government's point of view you could get PR, leave after one day and then return at retirement time to claim your pension and medical care having never paid into the system.
I know that is not what you are doing but it is the reason that the Government ensures people are committed for at least 4 years before they get the option to come and go as they please and why there are residency requirements for RRVs.
Not relevant in your situation I know. Also, Aussie passport isn't the worst thing in the world and doesn't mean you aren't still a Brit!

This thread is not going to change the government policy, but they could insist that Pension and healthcare is only issued to those that have contributed during their permanancy visa's And to have it the other way round probably makes more sense. You are required to get a RRV if you want to leave within the first 4 years, then you can come and go as you please, as you have contributed and put down roots during that extended period
