Temp to permanent visa
Hi, we are currently on our 2nd 457 visa through my wife. we want to apply for PR via the 187 direct entry scheme and this is what the employer wants too. Has anybody done this and did they do it themselves instead of paying an agent? If so how hard or straight forward was it?
Thanks
Thanks

Would you not be eligible for the transition Stream for a 186 visa? That would be an easier option.

I think we would be eligible for the 186, I've had a look but am struggling to find the differences between the 2 visas and how it's easier, do you know?
Thanks
Kevin

For a start one is regional so it will depend where you live and work.
The transition scheme 186 will not require an assessment to be done nor a regional body to approve the position.
There are differences between the 186 and 187 and both have a transition and a direct entry scheme. To start with do you qualify for transition scheme and secondly where are you?

Re: Temp to permanent visa
We have been in a 457 now for 2.5 yrs approx but with this employer for about 7 months. It's actually my wife's business and she is sponsoring herself.
We are in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast so definitely regional. We have also already had her skills assessed and transferred into Aussie qualifications.

So not transition stream then. If you have a valid assessment then surely the 186 would be better as you don't need the RCB approval.
If you are still confused then maybe a chat with an agent to clarify things may be worth it, even if you do not use them for all the process.
