Sponsored migrant/independent skills visa - costs - advice needed
Hello,
Apologies if this has already been covered in another thread.
I am currently being headhunted by a construction company in Melbourne, and if successful in my final interview, would be brought to Aus on either a sponsored migrant or independent skills visa.
The fees attached to the visa application obviously have an employer and employee side. Is it unheard of to negotiate with the company to pay both sides of the fee, and reimburse them as part of a payment plan? The reason being that if successful, the company would want the visa application in as soon as possible, and although I could front the bill, unless I took out a loan as well I would be really struggling financially for the first month of being there.
I just want to make sure that if successful, I know where the line is drawn on this when going into employment negotiations.
Thanks.
Dan

The visa applicant may pay for: travel costs, the visa application charge and ancillary costs such as medical examination and police clearances fees, as required and for health insurance.
All other costs must be met by the employer and it is illegal to reciverr, or attempt to recover, these from the employee - significant penalties apply.
Some employers pay all costs.
