Default Jobs/Accommodation in Australia for British expats

So I'm at that age now where I want to travel to Oz but I don't fancy slumming it in a hostel and work on a farm.

I read online that you can actually work in an office and one account described how she sourced a UK recruitment agency that had offices in Oz in order to get into an office job. Does anyone know if this is true? If I cannot acquire a job beforehand, how easy is it to find an office job while there?

And how easy it is for expats to find a place to rent with other flatmates?

Coming over on a 417 visa? You can work in whatever job you can find, for a maximum of 6 months with one employer. If you want to stay for a second year, you need to complete 3 months work in a designated rural area during your first year.
I think it would be very difficult to secure a 6 month office job from the UK unless you had in demand/specialist skills.
Look at seek.com.au for jobs.
Gumtree is good for flat shares.

There are many good hostels in Australia, not sure why you think staying in one is 'slumming it'.

Plenty of agencies here in Sydney offer temp office jobs that are suitable for people on WHVs. Job ads often say that 'WHV holders are welcome to apply' so it's nonsense to think that you have to go via a UK-owned agency to get one.

Given the amount of Poms that work in recruitment in Sydney, it's virtually the same thing anyway.
