Default RRV Eligibility?

Hi BE Mates,

A quick question if you know the answer, please:

A friend of mine got PR in 2005. His visa expired in 2010. During this period, he spent only few months in Australia.

Is he eligible for an RRV?

Please share your knowledge.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Fred.

Hi Fred, best posting this in the Immigration/Visas etc part of the Oz forum. From my limited knowledge I'd say your friend has Buckley's, but that's only a semi-educated guess. See what the good people in the Immi/Visa page say.

No harm in trying beyond losing an application fee. But I tend to agree with the summary by the poster above.

Ordinarily you would need two out of the last five years spent in Australia to gain an RRV. This would last for another five years. If you have spent less than that time you would need to demonstrate substantial ties to Australia. This would then give you a one year RRV. If your friend has only spent a few months in Australia in the last ten years then he may struggle to prove this.
