Perminent residency help!
Hi all!
I am in a long term relationship with my partner- he is an Australian citizen, I am a British citizen and we are currently living in the UK with our daughter. We would like to move to his home in Adelaide and I would like to study a masters in social work in Oz. My question is- what is the best way to go about this- obviously I would like to avoid paying the ridiculously high international students fees if possible- is there any way for me to gain perminant residence so I can pay the domestic students fees? Would it help anything if we got married?!
I'm so lost about where to start!
Any help appreciated 😊

Hi
Welcome. Per above. Partnership visa would be best most likely in your situation - info here https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/801-
However, bear in mind the cost for this is currently AUD $6,865.00

If the OP is in the UK, they need to apply for a 309/100 Spouse Visa offshore.

Thanks for all your help.
I think we are going to leave it for a few years- for some reason I really didn't anticipate it costing that much money!

A few years ago, it cost maybe a couple of thousand $. So just worth noting these costs can rise steeply.

The fee will almost certainly rise again steeply on 1 July. It's not going to get any cheaper and you'll have five years once the visa is issued to make a permanent move to Australia. I regret not applying last year; I won't be making the same mistake again this year.

Lets just hope that they shake the system up sufficiently to bring down the waiting times!

Haha, just need to find the cash! Offshore waiting times have plummeted. I'll be looking at applying in June and validating it at Easter.

Re: Perminent residency help!
Just need the onshore and PR times to do the same -I read today that onshore might now be outsourced to offshore High Commisions as they can't cope with the massive increase on onshore applications!

Re: Perminent residency help!
Yeah, that's happening already. Not enough applications being made offshore as there's no cost advantage any more. Interesting to see whether that'll be reversed in July.

Re: Perminent residency help!
Do you think the partner visa cost will increase hugely for both onshore and offshore (if they change the price for both)?

Depends where you're applying from but it's now six months or less via London.
Remains to be seen but I wouldn't be surprised given that they are undercharging compared to the UK who they seem to be aping at the moment. I think it will end up around the $10,000 mark by 2020.
