I know a friend that came to here (Canada) from Russia on work visa. My friend told me
that he found a job with a Canadian computer company while he was in Russia and the
company took care of all the paper work for the visa. I have an IT job and thinking to
look for a job in Australia over the internet. Dose Australia has similar thing to Canada
where a company can take care of work visa for an over-seas employee?

Hello Sam, If you can find an employer who is willing to sponsor you for a work visa, then
yes you can have your employer take care of the bulk of the paper work for. But you would
still need to send in your application papers and whatever supporting documents to the
Australian embassy in Canada to finally be issued a work visa.

But do note, the recent bust of the dot.com in the US has had repercussions as far as the
IT and Telecom industry in Australia. (Read this for more info
http://www.itjobs.fairfax.com.au/ele...15-2001Jan18.h tml) So for
the next few months, I would be doubtful you can be successful in obtaining jobs over the
internet without physically being present in Australia - let alone also have your company
sponsor you for a work visa (which employers tend be very weary off.) However, that might
change with the recent initiative by the Australian government on opening its doors to IT
specialists from overseas.

I think at the end it all depends on what skills you have (i.e programming with C++/Java -
highly desirable in the Melbourne area) or if you are a mainframe administrator (not a
lucrative scene downunder.) When it comes to IT jobs, then Australian employers feel that
programming skills are easily transferable from overseas - but its best for you to talk
with a recruiter. Plenty out there on the web, just go to any search engine and run a
query for Employment in Australia.

So in conclusion, yes it is possible - but not very probable.

Good luck
