Options to extend visa as a result of ill wife?
We have a Class 175 visa which is due to expire shortly. Our plan was to head out to Aus this month, but that has been put on hold as my Wife had to have back surgery last October after suffering for 3 months with a herniated disc. She is currently undergoing physio, but is still very much recouperating and she has been told that the recovery time from the operation can take a long time.
I would rather our visa did not expire without us going because of her back and wonder whether the only option we have available is to apply for a
Subclass 157 Resident Return Visa
If this is the only avenue available to us, do we have to apply before out PR expires or can we apply when the PR has expired and she feels ready to make the move?
Thanks in advance

Well, you can certainly try and the only thing you have to lose is the filing fee. Do you have any ties to Australia? Jobs to come to, property, family, etc.
However, from a practical perspective, you have had 5 years to organise yourselves and make the move.

"However, from a practical perspective, you have had 5 years to organise yourselves and make the move. " - Agreed. No excuses on that front

Definitely. I know that everyone's different, but 6-7 months should see your wife well recovered from disc herniation surgery (I've had 2). For her comfort, you might want to see if you can find a cheap(ish) business class flight for her. Best of luck.
