Both Accountants and Software and Applications Programmers (2613**) have very few places (46 and 48 respectively) remaining in this years Skilled Independent visa (189, 190, 489) quota.

Once the quota is reached no further invitations for these occupations (as well as ICT Business and Systems Analysts which had already reached quota) can be issued until the new financial year - 1 July 2015.

My fiance has been invited for state sponsorship. She is an Accountant. However, she hasn't been invited for the visa yet. Will she be impacted by this too or is she is the margin of safety?

Has she actually submitted the EOI yet? If not, then I would say she won't be invited until after 1 July (if accountants are still on the list)

Well, she has registered her account for EOI in January and expressed NSW as her primary sponsorship state. Then she was invited by NSW for sponsorship in early April. If she has been invited for sponsorship by NSW, won't she be invited for the visa too as they had a quota of 4,000?

Has she filled out the online visa application, paid the fee and had confirmation of the application being lodged? If not, then it's highly likely she won't be invited to apply now until after 1 July....IF accountant is still on the list next financial year.

No she hasn't filled online VISA application and the application isn't lodged yet. However, she was invited by NSW state for state sponsorship. So, does that mean if she isn't invited by 1st July, and if the occupation won't be in the list, the 300$ fee paid would all be gone? Isn't the state quota different from the DIBP quota?

Yes, that's right. Her sponsorship from NSW is only the state's part in the process. If DIBP remove accountants from the SOL and CSOL then she cannot apply for a visa under the accountant code. And yes, the $300 you paid to NSW is paid to the state to process that application. What happens after they process it; whether approved or not, is not their concern and you would not get that money refunded.

If she's been approved for NSW state sponsorship what is she waiting for to apply for the visa? (Note that's visa, not VISA. VISA is a registered trademark of a credit card company where visa is a travel document).

Hey Dorothy,

Thank you for your response. Luckily she her state nomination has been accepted by NSW two days ago. She has received an email which also states that soon she will receive a visa invite by DIBP. Are we on safer side now? Can I assume that? Much appreciate your correction too, but it was phone predicted text mode :-)

Accountants (General) have now reached their quota and no more invitations will be issued to accountants until after 1st July 2015.

Note: this does not apply to state sponsored visa applications.

It is the overall accountants group - 2211 - that reached the occupational ceiling. You will need to wait for the new financial year.


Software and Application Programmers (2613) has also reached quota. This information is available on skill select.

The 8th May SkillSelect report provided invitations to Accountants 2211** with a points score of over 65 or applications that had a score of 65 and had submitted their EOI prior to 28 April 2015 3.21 pm

It also advised that no further invitations would be issued for accountants 2211** this financial year.
