Red face Re: nurse husband and wife need help please?.

Welcome,
There are some nurse related threads on here so do a search. Beware though there have been many changes recently so keep to the most recent posts. Also keep an eye on the sticky threads at the top for latest visa news

Start here:

http://www.immi.gov.au/

This gives you all the details about the many visa types. As a nurse maybe look at the employer sponsored ones. It is the goverment site and once you get the hang of it will tell you everything you need to know.

If you get your head round the possible visa you want to apply for then you can ask more specific questions. If you find it all too daunting then you might want to approach an agent. Many good ones will give you a free initial assessment.

Welcome to the journey

Also be aware that we have a Nursing Forum on here. It covers all countries but there is stacks of Australia Nursing help there.

As rammy says, there are many changes, both already made, and to be released in the next few weeks. Keep an eye on the red 'read me' sticky threads at the top of the page. All new information will be posted there as soon as it's released.

Hello and Welcome...from a fellow nurse, who now is very chuffed to have Visa in hand !
You've been given sound advice to visit DIAC Visa wizard to determine what eligibility you have - it use to be pre-changes that nurses had enough points to apply for 175 independant Visa, but that is age dependant now. Some older nurses are not achieving enough points and need to pursue Sponsored options, where less points required!
Very important consideration is that to achieve registration ALL nurses have to sit the IELTS english exam and achieve a level 7 in all areas. This came in July 2009 and makes many English speaking nurses disgruntled but its got to be done, so look into this! Loads of threads and info on nurses forum.
Good luck and ask away with any questions - tons of us to help!

what if you dont have enough points as an independent nurse?
how would you get someone to sponsor you? will you need to find your own employer? if yes, how hard is it to find an employer?

Hello There,
Even if you do have enough points to apply independently I would advise seeking state sponsorship. With state sponsorship you only need 90 points (plus 10 from the state) and the processing time would be dramatically less.

Thank you,

What do you need to do in order for the state to sponsor you? do you need to contact them?

A lot of the states have suspended their process currently until they release their new 'State Migration Plans' (SMP's). These are expected to be released in July.

Each state has different criteria. The only way to check if you meet the criteria is to visit each site individually - or seek professional assistance

Thank you, SD MOA,

are there any organizations or lawyers who specialize on Canadian Immigration here in the United States?

If you want an expert on Canadian immigration you might get better results posting in the Canadian forum.
