Newly qualified social worker wanting to move to Australia

Hi everyone.

I am a newly qualified social worker, I have no work experience aside from my placements.
I'm 23 so I have never really worked, just went straight from doing my degree to doing my masters.
I have a 3 year old son and I really want to permanently stay in Australia with him and my partner.
My partner is an Engineering Technologist and he has been in Melbourne on a graduate visa but that expires in 6 months.
He hasn't had any work experience related to his field and so he doesn't have enough points to apply for the 189 PR visa.
I thought I could be the main applicant due to my social work degree. I am doing my Ielts in a few days.
My question is: has anyone (Social Workers) had a positive assessment by the AASW without the 3 years work experience and been granted the 189 visa?

If AASW require 3 years experience then unfortunately you will need to have 3 years experience. You will also probably need the experience if you are looking for jobs here. Why would an Australian employer hire you, an inexperienced foreign trained candidate when they can hire a local graduate who's done local placements?

Australian isn't going anywhere. Get your experience then think about moving later.

Thanks for your response Dorothy. May I ask, are you a Social Worker? The AASW have two separate assessments for internationally qualified Social Workers.
One application is stated to be for employment and migration,
The second assessment is a skills assessment which is optional and is also the one that requires the work experience (the other assessment does not require work experience).

That's why I am asking if any Social Workers have had a positive assessment with the AASW as it states on their website that the skills assessment is optional.

Have you read this thread? http://britishexpats.com/forum/austr...tralia-883742/

Post #30 has a pretty good explanation of the AASW requirements and seems to answer your question.
