Masters Program leading to PR
Hi All,
Could anyone here please explain the end to end process from a Masters program to PR.
Mentioned below are the details.
The student is enrolled in a 2 year Masters Program that is in the SOL list.
What happens at the end of 2 year period?
Does it automatically convert into PR? or The student first gets the graduate work visa?
Is it essential to show a 1 year post Masters working experience in the same sector in Australia to be able to apply for PR?
I am looking at the points calculator and it calculates 60 points without including the 1 year working experience.
30 for age
10 for IELTS 7+
5 for 2 year Australia education
15 for recognized bachelor degree
Total = 60
Confusion: If a student can already accumulate 60 points without work experience why I have heard having working experience is mandatory?
I am sure I am missing some critical information here .
Thanks.

Confusion:
1. If a student can already accumulate 60 points without work experience why I have heard having working experience is mandatory?
2. Also, how would the degree verification process work? The bachelor degree (NOT in SOL list) needs to be verified as 'recognized bachelor degree' and once the MS is completed the MS degree needs to be verified for 'SOL List requirement' ?
3. Lastly, do all the occupation is SOL list have the bare minimum of 60 points qualification or it is different for different occupations?

You would need to pass a skills assessment for your occupation. Most occupations require a mix of qualification and post qualification experience. What is your occupation?

[QUOTE=AtherSaeed;12219888]Confusion:

AtherSaeed, in 100% of the cases, go by what The Department publishes on-line or in print, and not what you "heard."
All professions require a minimum of 60 points, but 60 points does not guarantee you a place, each draw they rank the applicants by highest points total.
A Master's degree will not get you extra points but a PhD will if it is recognised.
There are two steps here: The requirements from your skills assessor to recognise your degree as equal, and then the overall immigration requirements.
So, what is the skills assessor for your profession? What do they need to see in order to recognise your qualification as being equivalent to an Australian one? If they are mandating work experience - then it is mandated for that profession. If not - then they don't.
There is no work experience mandate overall for the general immigration process but the more experience you have, the more points you can claim.

What about a 2 yr Masters Degree from SOL List? Could a candidate apply PR based on a 2 yr Masters from SOL list (considering he gets all 60 points)?
Thanks.

Re: Masters Program leading to PR
You seem to be mixing up two none related aspects of the process.
The first is to check if you can pass the skills assessment. This is unique to each occupation. Many occupations require post qualification experience to pass. You need to go through the requirements for yours. Then, you calculate points. You need both sufficient points AND a positive skills assessment

Mentioned below is the response from AASW
An applicant must have completed at least 980 hours of field education in at least two field placements and with two contrasting practice foci at least one of which was in direct practice.
So, they also mentioned 980 hrs plus Masters in Social Work are enough for a positive skills assessment.

There is no assessment of the bachelor degree as such if the Masters is an accredited course with AASW, assuming they are applying for assessment as a social worker.
If they are not applying as a social worker, then they need to find their occupation on the CSOL, and that will list the assessing body.
Perhaps the person who is looking to get their skills assessed could join the forum though rather than you asking the questions for them.

This is their description of what must be included in your coursework, to gain a positive skills assessment.
"980 hours of field education" is through coursework practicum, not work experience. Very, very unlikely to be able to substitute work experience for this coursework practicum.

Is there a question in all of this? Or are you hoping to get some validation of the answers you already know?
