Brief summery of history
Always wanted a place in the country side --- always liked computer and console games for it´s creative outlet --- Wanted to combine those as a freelancer in CGI --- Studied for bachelor --- finished the degree --- burned out --- still wanted to live in the country --- started gardening and looking for other jobs --- Found a job that I liked --- Still wanted to live in the country side --- looked for a way to move to the country with the ability to work from home --- studied accounting --- found permaculture --- got tremendously inspired after completing online PDC course --- had to go to Australia and see all of these systems --- went for 7 months --- came back, saved some money, quit my job, moved to the country side --- working on building a natural house --- get a feeling that I should come back to Australia --- Present day, looking for ways to work in Australia.
Reason for moving
I want to live a simple life, close to nature. My current lifestyle fits me better in a warmer climate, I´m very health oriented and every winter I go abroad anyway to get some sun, so why not live in a country where winters are short and sunny? I like fruits, nuts and veggies and love to garden.
Future projects
Wherever I settle, It would be very fun for me to start a school garden at the local school for the young children to get involved and start their own garden. I would love to also plant an orchard along that school or close by in the community or along a dirt road.

Questions
I´m wondering about my current situation and how to go about getting a work visa for Australia?
Or what would be the good ways in getting a job visa?

Some of my own ideas
  • Can I travel to Australia as a tourist ( with a tourist visa ) and visit different companies that are eligible for sponsorship in for example gardening or carpentry and offer them my resume and information and tell them my situation and show them my eagerness and willingness as well as skills and work in order to get a sponsored job? Can I then from a tourist visa apply for a work visa while still in Australia?
  • Can I ( or is it wiser ) make a Australian resume and CV and look up all the different companies in respective fields that I have particular skills in and send them my resume, and work as well as call them and be willing to meet them for an interview ( fly over , meaning I have to go as a tourist ? )
  • Can I get a second year work and holiday visa even though my first year has ended?
  • I heard they will increase the age limit for a work and holiday visa to 35, can I apply for it one more time since I am 31 ?
  • Can I get a sponsorship from any company that are willing to sponsor? Meaning that, is it the government that decide which companies are eligible to sponsor or can anyone with a company sponsor someone?
  • Can I send an Expression of interest on skill select, and if selected pay my visa application to be granted a 189 visa, and find any kind of work? Or does it have to be in the field of the profession that was sent in the application? Or how does it work exactly?
  • How about construction work? I have read that construction is a growing profession, ( white card needed )?

Thank you very much for all your help!
Appreciate it a lot
God Bless
/Lukas

Start at www.immi.gov.au to see if you are eligible for a visa. The rest of your post is not relevant if you aren't.

As Dorothy says, start with the DIBP website and see if you have a skill that makes you eligible for a visa. For permanent residency you will need to pass the relevant skills assessment. If you can't do that, its a non-starter.

You can certainly trael here and look for sponsorship, but you will need a skill on the SOL or CSOL in order to be sponsored - check those out on the link already given

As above, you still need a skill on the list

If you are 31 you re over the age limit for a WHV. It has never been more than a rumour that it was to be increased to 35.

If you have an eligible skill the compant can apply to become a sponsoring company, and once approved can nominate to sponsor you. They have to meet various requirements, including committing to a certain amount of training for all employees.

You need a valid skills assessment before you can lodge an EOI, and you will also need to pass IELTS or a similar English exam. If you are granted a 189 you can work in any profession, anywhere in the country.

Same as any other profession, the skill must be on the SOL or CSOL

Hi! Thanks guys for your replies!

I am eligible for visa 189 , 190 and 489 if I take the point test as a carpenter from Australian Visa | Australia Visa - Australian Visa Bureau
and visa 190 and 489 as a gardener, ( gardener is not in the CSOL )

I don´t have a formal education as a carpenter or a gardener, I hold references and showcases of my previous work. I don´t know how good this would be in a possible interview, but I´m thinking from an employers perspective that I would much rather hire someone who knows what he is doing/has some experience rather than having a fresh graduate. However this is of course all relative to the circumstance and perspective of the employer etc. He or she might want to invest locally, long term, need special skills etc, so it´s not all about previous experience.

I think I would have a better chance of getting sponsorship as a gardener. I have more experience from that field and perhaps carpentry/handyman would be seen as a bonus? But I am a bit clueless as what would be best to do?

Thanks!

You're not getting a skilled visa unless you can pass the skills assessment. You're also very unlikely to get sponsored as a gardener.

Never mind migration agent points tests, go to the source. Australian Government Department of Immigration and Border Protection to see what you need to do. Look at the skills assessment authority for whatever trade you're looking at then look at what you need to do/have in order to pass the assessment.

You need to see if you are eligible for a visa to begin with. You also need to be realistic about what occupational categories you can apply under - realism can be obtained by checking the skills requirements of the various skills assessment authorities responsible for assessment. Carpenters can apply via ACTS or Vetassess. Gardeners via TRA, although as stated above, there's not much in the way of visa options for gardeners at the moment.

Regards,

Richard

  • Looking at the skill assessment processes and requirement, it seems that it is something I would need help with. I agree that going that route is perhaps not the best one for me, but what would be the best option for me if I want to stay in the country and work?
  • I have heard that getting a permanent residency is easier in New Zealand, although I haven´t researched this. But New Zealand does have regular earthquakes and one major one recently and perhaps it is easier to get a sponsored job there as a carpenter or construction worker? They do need workforce?
  • What about being self employed , starting up your own business? I assume this is not an easy task as well for a foreigner?

To me it seems as if the best option would be to visit Australia or New Zealand and try and find a sponsor on sight. However, to apply, for sponsorship I have to be outside of Australia/New Zealand? So I would have to go to New Zealand and then come back if the visa is approved, or vice versa for New Zealand?
I read something else on another forum *jobs under sponsorship, rely on the fact that the jobs cannot be filled by an Aust citizen/Aust PR holder, thats the first point.
The employer would have to prove to Aust immi that they can't find someone with the skill set that they need, then they can look at sponsored employees.
*
However, how does this work in practicality? Not being able to find the skill set can be very local? A small business that is placed a bit remotely doesn't perhaps have many applicants, or people willing to relocate? Perhaps the job requires a co op ship and thus the job requires a type of persona to fit the job? I mean, if you look at all of Australia, I am sure that there are skilled people to meet every demand, but those people might not be willing to travel, or maybe they have changed career, or other circumstances?

So if you check the ABS site for gardener - 1220.0 - ANZSCO - Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations, First Edition, 2006 - you'll see that they are looking for a qualification equal to the AQF III or IV. It may be possible to substitute experience for the qualification, but you would have to be able to prove this.

TRA - http://www.tradesrecognitionaustrali...s/default.aspx - would be who assesses your skill so I would have a look to see if you can provide all the evidence they will require.

Similarly, you can find carpenter on the ABS site if you look, and this occupation is on the SOL. It is also assessed by TRA as you are not from an OSAP country.
