We did a search ... Was just visa information. .... sadly still will look to the human services

Then if google is failing you, find the main government site for the state - eg www.qld.gov.au and then search within the State site Also try the federal site for Human Services.

Aus is hard work online, they are still in the dark ages in many places and you have to start thinking outsite the box

Thank you , have looked at the Victorian Government site and you have to be OZ citizen for most of the jobs. I have to live in the Victorian State due to my visa.

does anyone know how easy is it for me to transfer an English driving licence into an Australian licence?

yep - walk in the licensing office with your proof of who you are, where you live and current license, fill out the forms, hand over your money, have photo taken - license turns up at home a few days later (well that's SA anyway)

I'mn surprised. I know a lot of nurses in Victoria who are not citizens, many of whom use BE. Maybe your area is different?

I think what the OP is seeing is the blurb about preference for permanent residents or citizens.
