learning disabilities nurse looking to move
hiya !
I have 13 years experience and a Diploma in Learning disabilities part 13 on the register.
I think I need to apply for the job first and the employer will be able to apply for a visa. ( I could be wrong here ...)
I know as soon as I get my nursing number from Aphra .. they should be interested
Are there any agencies who specialise in Learning disabilities ?
Kindest regards

Re: learning disabilities nurse looking to move
if your registering with AHPRA, assume you are a Registered Nurse with focus on disabilities? Or an enrolled nurse/practical nurse?
you can apply for permanent residency without a sponsor under SkillSelect. You just need to score 60 points and be invited to apply for a visa. Your occupation should also be on the shortage list.
Visit skillselect.gov.au for more info.

Hi Dave. The reason I asked the question is that people with an intellectual or cognitive disability such as Down Syndrome don't need nursing care unless they're sick. If you can outline your previous work (community based, hospital based etc) you might receive more relevant replies to your question

Re: learning disabilities nurse looking to move
I have worked in Day centres for those with behavioural issues , autism and mental issues. I have also worked in Respite ( 24 hour care ) services. I think the nurse is called (Developmental Disability) - 254416 .
Due to my age I only got 55 points , so I am apply to regional Victorian who will sponsor me for an extra 5 points. I think if I am able to get a job i may not have to use them.

What's your registration status in the UK? Are you a trained nurse with a pin?

AHPRA?
It's apparently pretty difficult to secure work from here- but people have been known to do it- you'll need to interview well online. Look up the Nursing thread & have a look at other people's experiences. There is no recognition of Nursing Disabilities, I think it's pretty new even here? but you seem to have identified the classification for yourself anyway. Search all the Nursing publications too- they advertise for Aus quite regularly.

Congratulations on the visa Dave
A quick google returned this - http://www.jobs.carecareers.com.au/?...FRJxvAodiB4AfQ - not sure if it's of any help.
If you can find any vacancies advertised, you could try an approach to those recruiters generally - good luck
