Job offer/How long for a permanent visa?

Hi there,
I have received a job offer from an Australian company. I have been told that I can get a
temporary work visa without a long delay and that applying for a permanent residence
status before I get there would take much longer. Does anyone has some sense of how
roughly I would have to wait for a permanent visa if I apply for one while I am here
(Canada)? Your advice is appreciated. Thanks.
