If you are looking for a skilled visa to Australia then, given your age, you would most likely be looking at obtaining an English Language Test/IELTS level 8.
If it's any consolation, I'm even older!
Other option is the 457 route. The 457 is due to be abolished and replaced by another temporary work visa programme in March 2018.
Regards,
Richard

A grade of 8 on IELTS is difficult - even for a competent native user of English.

On the other hand, you can never tell. I've had a vehicle painter who passed IELTS 8 first time (four 9s!) and a degree-qualified accountant who failed it three times.
Generally speaking though, it's tough.

Richard

Because at your age you'd find it difficult to have enough points for a visa - a high score on the IELTS would give you more points.

Very true, Richard! I'm an Australian in the UK on a spouse visa, and am a foreigner under immigration control for 5 years (after which I can apply for citizenship). All good, each country has not only the right but the obligation to determine its own immigration rules in accordance with that country's economic and social needs.

I've started a petition for DIBP to pay you to come. Obviously you're in such high demand that we taxpayers should be footing the bill. I've also asked that the government pay your moving costs and a year's wage upfront so you can get yourselves settled.

You're will not be paying hundreds of pounds - make it thousands (if you go for PR)

It's highly unlikely a building firm will sponsor you, why would they when there are unemployed builders with their resumes in their hands on their doorsteps.
