Help! Employer has given me a visa conundrum
Hi,
So a fantastic company has offered me a job in Adelaide which I've accepted.
We had agreed that the family and I would come out on a 457 under Marketing Specialist.
But the employer has now suggested we come out on a 187 as the option of a transition to permanent residency won't be available for this under the new immigration regulations.
The complication is that 187 visas can take up to a year to process. That's just not practical for the employer or us.
So, should we just come out on a 457 and start a new permanent residency under South Australia state nominated 190 visa after we arrive? Are you able to apply for this whilst on a 457?
Are there any other obvious options?
Any help gratefully recieived!

Assuming eligible you can apply for a permanent residence visa whilst holding a 457 visa.
Obviously I do not know your circumstances but I have previously assisted with applications where a 457 and 187 are applied for at the same time in parallel.
The visa applicant is then able to move and start work quickly, but the process of applying for a permanent residence visa has been started and they can move to that visa once granted.
