E651 visa - what happens next?

I have applied 2 weeks ago on line for a E651 visa for my visit to OZ in 3 weeks time for one month stay.
Apart from receiving an e-mail asking me to confirm my e-mail address I have heard/received nothing since.
What is the next step? Shouldn't I receive some sort of confirmation that all is well? Previous e-mail was of donotreply kind.
Why are people still offering ETAs if free E651 visas can be obtained directly from the Australian Dept of Immigration? I wondered if it might be best to pay £7.50 and get ETA anyway just to be on the safe side.

Can't you check the status of your application online?

Standard times for processing applications for this visa is 2 - 10 working days. Processing time for an ETA is less than one day so there is time to wait.

Thanks. My application is described as finalised but I still don't know what to do next. There is a drop down list with options Open and Correspondence. I chose Correspondence and there is none. I chose Open an d nothing happens. Also you can tick the box at the left but what does that do?

Re: E651 visa - what happens next?

Hey this is a different question but its regarding the same E651 visa so I thought I'd take the chance. I'm going to have to use an emergency UK passport to travel to Sydney but I'm not sure if Australia allows ETD holders to apply for the e651 visa as regular UK passport holders. I mean it will be issued by the UK and labels me a British Citizen so I'm thinking it shouldn't be an issue however, with the US for instance, although they do allow the ETD for entry into their country its not acceptable for use with the ESTA application under the Visa Waiver Program. So one would still have to get a US Visa.

Has anyone ever had experience with this? The gov.uk website says that Emergency passports are accepted as entry into Australia but it says nothing about the VISA which is required for all UK citizens. I also spoke to the UK embassy in barbados where I am at the moment and though they say they can issue me the ETD they dont know if Australia would accept them for the eVisa.
