Default Dependency Requirements for Visa Subclass 190

Hey guys,

I had a question about the "dependent relative" criteria on the subclass 190 visa:
  • My mother is widowed and has no income.
  • I have one brother who is a PR and living in Australia.
  • I have another brother who is 16 years old in high school.

I want to include both my mother and my little brother on my visa as dependent relatives, so is that possible? are they dependent relatives as per the DIBP criteria? I can provide the following proof:
  • Proof of financial dependency (bank statements), my brother is a minor, my mother has no income
  • They both live with me in a rented apartment.
  • No other relative takes care of them but me.

Thanks guys for your help

How old is your mum? If she's of an age where she could be working (and with a 16 yr old child I'm guessing she could work) then they would think she would be able to be independent.

She is 55 years old and hasn't worked for over 30 years?

But she could work - not reached retirement age yet so it could be hard to justify. No reason for her to be dependent at this age.

We are living in Egypt, I understand she hasn't reached retirement agent, but in reality it is impossible to get a job here in Egypt at that age.

Improbable, but not impossible. Anyway, does your mother get any pension or have any assets of her own? How about your brother? Does he have a part time job at all? You mentioned other family in your original post. Do you have brothers and sisters in Egypt?

No my brother doesn't have any part-time job, he never worked before.
No other family in Egypt, only another brother living in Australia.
She doesn't have any property or any assets of her own or any pension.

I would speak to a good registered migration agent. But, until she reaches retirement age I would not be too hopeful.

Of course by then, it is unlikely your brother would meet the dependent requirement.
