I was arrested last year and was given suspended sentence. Is there any chance to
immigrate to Australia or New Zealand? Thanks.

Hi AP,
Depends on the crime and the visa you are looking for.

Further information on Australia's character requirement is at:
http://www.immi.gov.au/facts/87character.htm
Information on New Zealand's character requirements is on the NZIS website:
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migration/character.html
Two points to bear in mind:
- you must declare any conviction on your application form, even if it doesn't
automatically bar you from migration
- it may be a good idea to get specific advice from a professional agent who's familiar
with DIMA/NZIS procedures and policies.

I would have said that you were a shoe in for Australia, although the fact that you didn't
actually do any hard time may count against you.
New Zealand doesn't accept criminals.
