Default 1-2 years in Australia. Which visa?

Hi

My (same sex) partner and I have been married/civil partnership for nearly 10 years. She is Australian with British citizenship. Our two children also have Australian citizenship.

We want to go for 1-2 years. Partner planning to work. This is as kids still young enough to leave school and for them to spend time with family. Us to have a change.

I don't have a specialist skill as such (marketing in community voluntary sector) but have got professional level qualifications.

Partner visa look permanent and also expensive....

Would I be best on a tourist visa for 12mnths. Would I have problems getting this? Could I leave at 11 months re-enter for remaining 6mnth-1 year. I don't want to be separated from my kids.

Would I better off not working and using paetner visa money to live instead (partner working)

My brother is Australian citizen and lives in Australia with his Australian wife so we also have that connection.

General thoughts on us doing this??

(Finally...not especially visa related, but any thoughts on how we'll integrate as a same sex couple in Adelaide??)

Go for the partner visa, yes it’s expensive but with PR you don’t have to faff about with not working, reduced Medicare coverage, leaving the country, being viewed with suspicion as perhaps not a bone fide tourist etc. Partner visas especially for relationships of demonstrated longevity with Aussie kids are taking just a few months in London. And you never know, one or both of you might decide you don5 want to leave.

As for being a ss couple in Adelaide, I imagine you’d integrate as well there as you do where you are now, it’s largely up to you.

A subclass 309/100 Partner visa is the way to go. You'll be given permanent residence based on your relationship and based on the current rules you have a good chance to get the residency period for Australian citizenship waived even if you return to the UK after a couple of years.

No visa for a one / two year stay unless you could find a sponsoring employer, which does not look realistic. Australian brother does not help. You need to apply for a partner visa.
