Still not sure about the document order, I ended up putting the sections in a folder back to front e.g. section 8 on top down to section 1 (form 80 I think) in last. The check list from the website was a bit confusing.

We also ended up putting copies of absolutely everything in, covered all section required on the checklist, property valuations etc (cost £400 from proper surveyor not estate agent). Together with copy of business plan, accounts etc. But I have read a couple of posts where people don't put all of this in the application??

In the end the Fed-ex pack weighed 2.1Kg!!

I would recommend going for state sponsorship, I have gone with WA after our travels there last year. They were great, very helpful, they let me know when they received it and I had approval back in 3 weeks, including post time!!

It makes the turnover target easier, but $200k turnover shouldn't be too difficult. I know how to run businesses, turnover is easy, profit is difficult. I believe even if you have 3-4 years of cash "burn" making no profit, you will be able to meet the targets. (Sell your service at cost if you have to).

Onto noseyness: WA, thinking of starting a horse related business, with my partner and 2 children, a complete change as my background is running a security consultancy.

What about yourselves what stage are you at and what are your plans?

A friend said to me recently "What's the worst that can happen? You come back." She is right.
Hi Bengyboo

Welcome to our world!!!!....yes we really are a nosey bunch, but its got us everywhere, found out lots of great info off this thread, its really helping me cope with the stress of it all....

I was going through our checklist today funny enough, with a little bit of help from my buddies craig and sarah(THANKS GUYS), and yes it does say to start from the bottom up (excuse my french) but the way i read it you do start back to front as such with the last document on the list being first and the first document being last in the order. (seems a bit weird, why not just change the form the other way round...(will shut up now, im confusing myself). I hope that makes sense.

Anyway great to hear from some newees on this thread, let us know how the application goes along the way.

Take care

B

Exactly my sentiments. PR is the ultimate goal and I'm prepared to concentrate purely on turnover and minimum profit if that's what it takes to meet the criteria.

I did exactly the same as you on the application front, as I had more than enough equity in my property to cover the minimum assets. My Agent was more than happy with just the House valuation, so you should be ok with what you sent.

There was me thinking that the Sponsorship was a really big hurdle and you Guys seem to have got yours quite easily.

Seems the bigger hurdles are to come then with phase two of the application.

Like you said in a post earlier today, between us we'll all figure out the way forward - it's a great thread you started... Sarah reckons we could all set up as migration agents when we get there (and at five grand a pop the turnover requirement will be pretty easy...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Craig.
Hi craig & Sarah

Feel the same way today, got feeling everything is going to run smoothly now, with all the help from my BV buddies.

Hey, if you start up a migration agents, remember never to mention this site to them, you could lose a lot of business!!!!

BTW read on another thread that it would be ok to apply for police checks again if you were not ready to go when they were due to expire, just best not to have meds done yet as thats quite a big expense, 5 of us to consider.

Take Care

Hi B-Boo

Thanks for reply. Were you advised that an estate agent's valuation would not be sufficient, or was it your choice to use a surveyor..??

Re - the turnover, couldn't agree more: turnover IS the easy bit. A decent bottom line is where the work comes in, but this can be done after the PR's in the bag.

We're well behind you guys - only sent the sponsorship application in a week ago so still waiting on that.

Hi Craig,

What a bunch of sad cases we are!!!!

No more Friday nites down the boozer, just want to get things moving with our new life, its all i think about.

In answer to your question about valuation on your property, on going through the check list today it reads:'Evidence of value ie; valuation certificate by an accredited property valuer, valuations by real estate agents who are not accredited property valuers are generally not acceptable'. Thats another few hundred quid to add to the list.

PJ & i plan to get some work done tomorrow on the visa application, if i turn off my computer, i might get some work done.

Take care

Yes we saw it on the checklist, we used a local firm. To give other 163'ers an idea of cost it was £1 per £1k of house value, not bad for 1/2hrs visit!

But if that is enough to prove £250k of assets then fair enough.

Thanks B-Boo. So, we're now "the 163'ers"... yeah, I like it.

Wow, is that the time already.... doesn't time fly when you're enjoying yourself: I've just finished filling in the whole of the visa application form; just need the certified copies sorting now.
Off to bed before I collapse.

Night night all...

Here's a silly little question directed to all the "163'ers" out there!!! With all of us having to sell our current businesses, homes, and many other substantial assets in order to go and begin life anew in Australia - has anyone ever fantasized momentarily of all the money you would save, and how much further ahead you would be (financially) if you just stayed in your current country, and perhaps just changed life around there, starting a new business, etc. I would never realistically be so driven by these thoughts to actually stay here - but we sure have a "Hmmmmmm....." kind of moment when we get to thinking about that!!!!

But, I must say that - since we've began this application process - we're finding little things each day (about our current business) that get on our nerves. We say a lot of things like "Just think!!! Not much longer and we won't have to worry about such n' such"!!! Being business owners, there's always going to be something about every business that is annoying - but we're so ready for a whole new set of little annoyances. Bring em' on!!!

No - there's not really a monetary value that can be put on the life that awaits us in Australia. To be held back by money would be something that a person would most probably regret one day.

Nothing really substantial to add to the conversation - just curious as to what kinds of similar thoughts may have crossed others' minds.

Yeah Pasha.... been there, thought that. It's good to get these kind of thoughts, then take a step back and realise - as you have - that regardless of the money involved, your dream is far more important and valuable in the long run.

It's good to go through this thought process because in the end, the trials only serve to reinforce your goal in all this. I'd recommend keeping a journal because once you're over there, away from everything familiar, there WILL be times when you get home-sick and miss everyone and everything familiar because we are naturally inclined to only remember the good in our lives whilst forgetting (or at least rationalising) the bad. It's when you're at your lowest that looking back over your journal will be most valuable to you as it will remind you why you went through all the pain and struggle in the first place - and it's a damn sight cheaper than going 'home' only to be reminded of why you left it all behind to start with...!!!

Think of it like this: your dream is like gold being refined by fire... after the process is finished, the gold (dream) is pure with all the dross having been removed.

Craig.

Hi Bebgyboo

Just a quick question for you. We are preparing our visa application today, got most of it covered. How did you present the documentation? Did you put it in a folder, loose or use a ring binder? Did you use any staples or paperclips? We know we have to use flags where indicated and number everything, just need to be sure how to present it, as there is so much paperwork to send off.

Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Good question, B. We're almost at the 'presentation' stage and would like to reiterate your question to everyone who has sent in their 163 visa application; also, anyone who has used an agent - how did your agent present the documentation?

And to any migration agents reading this, please tell us - how do the 'Perth Business Skills Processing Centre' like to receive the documentation...????????

Well B, between us we should get some idea of what they expect. Maybe we'll stall till you send yours in, then if it all gets returned to you with a note saying "could do better" we'll know to try a different approach...!!!!!! LOL. [for anyone who's not familiar with abbreviations, LOL = "laughing out loud"!!!]

Hi Craig

Looks like you have been very busy as well getting all the visa stuff together.

We are a bit nervous about getting it right. We have about half a rain forest so far, just need to get certified copies done. Have had a few hitches, kids birth certificates do not have our names on, as they are only short certificates, so need to go to registry office to find out how to get long certficates with our names on, i dont think its a major issue, and my daughters passport has just expired, so not sure if i should renew it first, or send a copy of her old one. Any ideas.........

And LOL..... thats what it means, i thought it was Lord o Lord, silly me....LOL.

Keep them q,s & a's coming 163ers
