Anything that is deemed non-urgent/not essential won't be covered. Some additional services not covered under the reciprocal agreements are home and extended care nursing, ambulance, podiatry, hearing and eye services. Probably worth putting all that into the mix when making a decision on travel insurance
That makes sense. I guess most people entitled to it under the reciprocal scheme just don't bother to get a card, I know I never did. Definitely risky without insurance then.

I used to be an Insurance Broker and also had an aged mother. That premium seems cheap, surprised that she could get it for such a long visit. Certainly check on the extent of the cover specifically pre existing conditions.

I can think of many reasons why an Insurer would not want to cover just the flight and many why she needs cover in Australia.

Thankyou quoll, Pollyanna, Boiler and spouse of scouse!!
She has booked and paid!! 3 month visa, can be extended once here, possibly; 1170 pounds insurance, 87 days. They have all her current and past medical history. After all that was done, travel agent then said now all she needs is Fit to fly documents... Surely the whole thing should have been reliant on her being fit!!??
Anyway, she can check that out tomorrow...
Really looking forward to it!!!
Thanks all again x

Check the small print on the policy. My then 84 yr old MIL had her blood pressure meds changed a couple of months before she was due to fly from the UK to the US. The insurance company cancelled her policy. It isn't unusual for the policy to state that they should be notified of any changes in the insured's medical history or meds.

No she's just bought insurance, she didn't have a medical for that insurance. The airline would be well within their rights to refuse to let her on the flight given her age and the length of flight. Bit like a heavily pregnant woman needing a Fit to Fly document.
