8501 compliance and repatriation cover - any good information??
Hi everyone,
we are new to Victoria having arrived from the UK a little over 3 weeks ago. We have ensured that we were compliant for the 457 visa with private health insurance cover but we now have our medicare in place and are planning on specifically selecting just ambulance cover and other extras for dental and optical care. We are of the understanding that to ensure we are 8501 compliant we need to have our medicare in place….as we are from the UK we believe the medicare is 100% reciprocal and hence with that now in place we are compliant for 8501.
Can anyone confirm that we have understood the 8501 requirement correctly?
In addition to this we are required to ensure we have repatriation cover as part of my job contract. Does anyone have any insight, information or experience of providers of repatriation cover?
Many thanks

On a 457 your employer is responsible for repatriating you.
As a sponsor you must pay travel costs to enable sponsored people to leave Australia
