Default 489 Family sponsor Visa

Hi i am an Aus citizen and want to sponsor my brother on Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489).

https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/489-

I live in Melbourne and would like my brother to live and work in Melboune too.

I want to know if he can come to Melbourne to live n work on this Regional visa ?

Thanks

He can't. The 489 is for regional areas, not Melbourne.

For Family sponsors, the designated areas of VIC are the entire state = https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Work/...signated-areas so he would be able to live and work in Melbourne. For family sponsorship, his occupation must be on the SOL

It is I think for state sponsored applicants (there's a whole list of postcodes but without googling, you can't tell where's where )

I think this LINK explains it quite nicely - for both the 489 and the subsequent 887

Yeah they have mixed state sponsored and family sponsored applicants in the same visa category 489. It was confusing for me as Melbourne definately doesn't come under regional areas.

So after cross-checking my understanding, i am concluding that Yes i can sponsor my brother on 489 VISA and he'll has legal right to live n work in Melbourne.

Let me know if you think differently and thanks for your help !

At this time Family 489 visas are not an option for some occupations - refer to the SkillSelect website under Invitation Round Results. IT occupations starting with 2611, 2613 and 2631 will not get an invitation for Family 489.

From Skill Select, invitation round results pages :

Due to high levels of demand, and in keeping with previous years, the below occupation groups will be subject to pro rata arrangements to ensure availability of invitations across the programme year. SkillSelect first allocates available places to Skilled – Independent visas (subclass 189) and then the remaining to Skilled – Regional (Provisional) visas (subclass 489). If all places are taken up by subclass 189 visas then there will be no invitations issued for subclass 489 visas in these occupations.
•Accountants
•Auditors, Company Secretaries and Corporate Treasurers
•Electronics Engineers
•Industrial, Mechanical and Production Engineers
•Other Engineering Professionals
•ICT Business and System Analysts
•Software and Applications Programmers
•Computer Network Professionals

How about "Systems Analyst 261112"? Can we apply for 489 Family Sponsor VISA ?
When applying for ACS assessment for 26112? How can i verify the exact requirements for this category?

ACS have information on their website that includes the duties and responsibilities for the different occupation codes.

Yes you can lodge an EOI for a family sponsored visa - you are just not likely to get a invite at present. I also think this occupation is at its limit for this year as well as being subject to pro-rata so it's possible no invitations will be issued for this occupation for the rest of the year. Last round cut-off points was 70 so even if he can go independent route, he will need to score very high points.
