457 Processing Times
Hi
I was wondering if anyone from the UK has processed a 457 visa recently and if they could share the processing times. In addition, is a medicial required for this visa? My future employer said that the visa should take 2/3 weeks to be processed and they said they were going to submit it at the end of this week. Im slightly worried as ive handed in my notice to leave my current employer mid January and the Christmas period is coming up. Please let me know if anyone can share their thoughts. Thanks Jenna |

457 visa applications current processing times are 75% are processed in 5 months, 90% are processed in 10 months.

So 2/3 weeks was incorrect. My occupation is Management Consultant and is on the skills list. I applied for a job and got an offer from a Australian company which is an approved business sponsor in which now they are processing a 457 visa with the hope to submit this week. I did not complete any skills assessment or nomination etc. Is a skills assessment mandatory and medical also? Another thing that I am slightly worried about is against that occupation is says I need a bachelors degree and/or five years experience relevant to the occupation. I have an unrelated bachelors degree to the occupation and 4.4 years relevant experience. Does anyone know what the exact requirements are for the occupation and if I should be worried? |

Management Consultant (ANZSCO 224711) Excludes positions in businesses that: have an annual turnover of less than AUD$1M; or in businesses that have fewer than five employees. Yes you need to pass a skills assessment, you can't get a visa without this. I'm at a loss as to why your prospective employer isn't advising you about the requirements to obtain this visa, they really should be. |

The requirements you'll need to meet to pass a skills assessment for this occupation are in the link provided on your other thread. The caveats mentioned relate to the sponsoring business, and are

They have had my documentation for a while and considering they are a massive organisation the only thing they advised me on was that I may not meet the experience and qualification requirement based on having an unrelated degree and not the full 5 years experience. Looking at the document on my other thread it seems that I may meet the requirements considering I have an unrelated degreee but I do have 4.3 years experience which is my current employer in the last five years? So I take it the skills assessment is a mandatory step to the process. Is there any excemptions to this which is why they haven't mentioned it to me? Doing some research I thought the skills assessment required for points tested visas and only mandatory for to those of trade occupations and project/program administrators or Specialist Manager? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks |

Thanks I can only say what I'd do in your situation - tell your prospective employer that you need to speak urgently to whoever handles their visa applications, and if they're a huge company there should be someone who does this, or consult a qualified, registered migration agent. It's concerning that you've given up your job on the basis of a job offer from a company that shows so little regard for ensuring you're suitably qualified and experienced for the position. It's not the company I'm worried for, it's you. You're a management consultant so you must have great research, problem solving and communication skills. Start using them, this is your future you're working on! Sorry I couldn't be more help and I hope this gets sorted for you. Do let us know how it goes. |
