Default "IT Jobs" vs. "Programming Jobs" - is there a difference?

Hi everyone,

I keep following the discussion about the bad situation in "IT Job Market", but I
have a feeling this job market refferes mainly to technicians and maintenance people,
or programmers of high-level environments like SAP.

I'm a programmer (I'm being payed to write software products, from UNIX device
drivers to XML file configurators, using C and Java), does the market for programmers
also fall under the "IT" label or are the prospects for us different in any
noticeable way?

Thanks,
