Default Questions on EOI Forms

Hi,

I’m going through the EOI forms and in the skilled section (after picking the job, plus sub-type (IT)), I’m at rather a sticky wicket, namely on one hand it says the skills are in demand (Computer Consultancy) but then goes on to ask me why I feel my skills are useful.

I’m planning on the ole CV “cut and paste” routine, is this the best bet or di other folks use a different set of words?

Cheers,

Neil

Hi Neil

Can I just check, is it this question you are asking about:

Please indicate why you believe this work experience should be recognised. (For example, it is relevant to your recognised qualification, or your skilled employment).

Hi Neil

They are asking why your work experience should be recognised not why your skills are useful.

The following is the definition of recognised work experience as per page 28 of the Expression of Interest guide

Recognised work experience
You can gain points for work experience if it is relevant to your recognised qualification or relates to your current or offered skilled employment in New Zealand. You can gain additional bonus points if you have work experience
lawfully gained in New Zealand or that was in an identified future growth area, cluster or area of absolute skills shortage.

If you do not have current or offered skilled employment in New Zealand, your work experience must have been in a comparable labour market in order for you to claim points. If you are claiming points for skilled employment in New Zealand you must also qualify for points for either a recognised qualification or recognised work experience. See Identified future growth area, Cluster, Area of absolute skills shortage, Comparable labour market.

SM 11.10 Requirements for recognition
Work experience is recognised and qualifies for points if:

a. it is relevant to the principal applicant’s current skilled employment in New Zealand or offer of skilled employment in New Zealand; or

b. a visa or immigration officer is satisfied that it is skilled work experience because it required, or enabled the principal applicant* to gain, considerable specialist, technical or management expertise; or

c. it is relevant to the principal applicant’s recognised qualification (see SM 14.5 on page 27).

d. Principal applicants who do not have current skilled employment or an offer of skilled employment in New Zealand (see SM 7 on page 26) will only qualify for points for work experience if:
i. the work experience meets the requirements for recognition set out above ; and
ii. that work experience was gained in a labour market that is comparable to the New Zealand labour market.

I hope this helps you - explanations of relevance to qualifications etc are further down on the page if you look at your guide......
Caroline

p.s. I have a copy of the complete guide saved (if you don't have one already) which I can forward to you if you want.

Hi,

We are doing OK thanks, I submitted the forms last week (nicely timed to mis the last selection...ho hum ).

So, I now waiting for some sort of notification, I check the NZ pages and email every day.

How (130 points) if we are selected will we know, just via email or a status change at the NZ site?

Cheers,

Neil

Neil,

good move getting the EOI in while the points required is low.

you will see the EOI status change to "selected" when you log in to the Online page of the NZ immigration website. Next selection date is Wednesday 25th May(done every 2 weeks). You should be fine on 130 so don't stress!!! On May 11th we had 110.

Hi,

Thanks for that, the "forum reply" did not tell me there had been another post.

Can't wait really, my bus needs major service with drive shafts and cam belt :scared: , so the waiting game stinks, spend a grand on that lot or just exit stage left.

Roll on the next selection.

Cheers,

Neil

The website seems a bit erratic at times - we've had our PR visas for a few days and my homepage is still at the 'EOI recieved' stage!

Hi,

I'll just "suck it and see", if we don't get picked I'll see what the agencies can say for themselves.

Had a reply from one saying "I may be able to apply if I can prove relevance of my qualifications”.

I can see the point, but my degree was 10 years ago (Geography), and I moved into IT for my sins based on modelling (mathematical, not the catwalk ) work I used to do.

So surely (and don’t call me Shirley ) my employers decided on the relevance of the qualifications?

Roll on the next selection.

Cheers,

Neil

Hi Neill (or should that be Shirley!)
I have a slightly different take on it, and my EOI was selected from the pool and then assessed successfully for the ITA, so hopefully I'm correct!
Your degree will get you x points, but your number of years experience in IT will get you another x points. I don't think relevance of 'qualifications' comes into it because you are working in a 'comparable labour market'. Therefore, all you'll need to do once you get ITA is 'prove' your IT work experience.
The contents and instructions in the ITA package seems to back this up.
I hope someone doesn't shoot this down in flames because that'lll be me stuffed!
Cheers,
Mark
