Current skilled employment in NZ - had to be permanent and/or fixed term?
Hi,
I have been selected with the EOI and am about to submit my ITA soon. Including the points I included current employment for less than 12 months as I'm on a contract with a possibility of being extended.
There is one thing that has been bugging me for a little while... to use employment or an offer of to gain PR the employment had to be permanent and not fixed term. I am now worried if it will affect my residency application?
If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Claire

You are in UK at the mo? So the fixed term contract/employment you have quoted refers to "work experience" points yes? If so I don't believe it stipulates perm of fixed term, it is still experience.
A Job Offer for PR - if you need the job offer points under the Skilled Migrant catagory - must be either permanent/ongoing or for a term of at least 12mths.
Look here and look at section SM7.15 "Additional requirements for skilled employment"
If you are in NZ then the extension must be for a further 12mth period to qualify as far as I can see...
Hope that helps...

Hi Simon
I'm in NZ and currently on a fixed term contract for 11 months. I came here on a working holiday with a 12-month work restriction. Having done 1 month paid employment with a different company before I landed this contract, my contract was tailored from 12 months to 11 months. Once the contract finishes, they will want to extend another month or 2 to cover 12 months +, hoping I would secure a PR to cover that period.
Even though I have over 3 months to lodge my ITA, I could get a work permit and hope to get some other job offers within the same company.

Claire, your WHV limits you to 12mths work - it doesn't matter what contract length you have, you must only work up to a limit of 12mths so limiting the new contract to 11mths and now extending it was a non-sense from that point of view.
My understanding is that you must have an offer of work >12mths at the point at which you apply under the SMC as per the pages I referred you to.
As presented in your post the "offer" looks a little contrived IMHO esp as you say the purpose is to get a work permit and then "hope to get other offers within the same company" - NZIS rules state the offer of work to count under SMC (and probably any other catagory) must be genuine as well as skilled and of an appropriate length.
If the company is not willing to offer you a >12mth contract and stand by its offer then clearly the offer isn't genuine and I suspect it won't meet NZIS' requirements.
