Default What is the passport validity?

Is there any requirement for the passport validity when the CIC request a passport for a visa stamping? For examply, if the validity has 3 months remaining, can the passport be stamped? Thank you for your answer.

PR visa would not be valid past the passport validity date so that you would have to immigrate before the passport expires.

Thank you for your reply. If the principal and spouse validity of their passports is more than one year but kid validity of passport has only three month remaining. Does it mean the kid’s visa will be issued for the validity of 3 months only? If so, does it mean the kid must land before the parents because the parents may have one year visa?

It means that all of the visas will expire in three months.

Jim is correct, when we applied for our work permits, we had to renew 3 of our passports; mine, husband's and my daughter's. Otherwise our work permits would have only been valid for 9 months, so I presume the same applies for visas too.

I thought that the passport had to be valid for a minimum period, like 6 months.

Not for PR visas since they are for PR. For visitors it has to be valid for at least 6 months since they will need a valid passport to leave.

Or they just get admitted for less than 6 months.

Can one request for postponement of mailing in his passport after receiving a notice of a visa stamping because it needs to be renewed first? If so, how to do that?

Is there a problem in getting the child's passport renewed now before the request from the visa office? And how long would it take to get the new one? That would be the best course of action.

It only takes a couple of weeks to get a new passport. You can even pay extra to have it processed within a few days, I'd apply for a new one now while you are waiting for your PPR. Have the prices gone up yet??? I also think passports cost a lot more if you apply from Canada.
