Default Technical Support Representative NOC Level Advice

I had a job as a Technical Support Representative approx. a year ago with the duties described as:

• Troubleshoot and provide technical support over the telephone to our customers
• Provide pleasant and professional technical support to ensure full customer satisfaction
• Recommend changes and improvements to our current hardware technology
• Provide technical support to retailers and service technicians
• Promote and sell the features, advantages, and benefits of Shaw Direct products and services to our customers
• Participate in special projects by recommending improvements to our current hardware technology as needed
• Review customer accounts and suggest applicable upgrades
• Promote and represent Shaw Direct in a positive manner
• Various other duties as needed

I have been advised that this job would fit in to job description NOC B:

2282 User support technicians:

Communicate electronically and in person with computer users experiencing difficulties to determine and document problems experienced
Consult user guides, technical manuals and other documents to research and implement solutions
Emulate or reproduce technical problems encountered by users
Provide advice and training to users in response to identified difficulties
Provide business systems, network and Internet support to users in response to identified difficulties
Collect, organize and maintain a problems and solutions log for use by other technical support analysts
Participate in the redesign of applications and other software
May supervise other technical support workers in this group.

OR

6221 Technical sales specialists:

Promote sales to existing clients
Identify and solicit potential clients
Assess clients' needs and resources and recommend the appropriate goods or services
Provide input into product design where goods or services must be tailored to suit clients' needs
Develop reports and proposals as part of sales presentation to illustrate benefits from use of good or service
Estimate costs of installing and maintaining equipment or service
Prepare and administer sales contracts
Consult with clients after sale to resolve problems and to provide ongoing support
Troubleshoot technical problems related to equipment
May train customers' staff in the operation and maintenance of equipment
May conduct sales transactions through Internet-based electronic commerce
May supervise the activities of other technical staff and sales specialists.

Would anyone have any opinion on this, do you think I could depend on this job as a part to make up part of my 12 calendar months of skilled work?

Thank you very much for you help in advance.

2282 sounds closer, I don't think 6221 applies.

Don't confuse "calendar months" with "continuous" when calculating work experience for an EE application (I may have misunderstood the way your query on that is written).

Hi Shirtback, thanks for your reply.

I had a meeting with a lawyer who mentioned that I have two jobs (my current job and the Tech Support job) that could count towards the CEC route for PR. My concern is that I am currently about to finish my 11th month at my current job but have an offer to go into my dream career route but only at entry level and as a result, not skilled work.

My conundrum is, can I depend on my previous Tech Support work to contribute to my 12 months Skilled work or do I risk losing the opportunity to get in to my dream career and continue at my current job for a no-questions-asked full 12 months towards CEC.

I know it seems like a no-brainer however, I am desperately unhappy in my current job and my dream job is right at my doorstep.

My real question boils down to: Can I rely on the tech support job to be a definite contributor in Skilled work for CEC?

Thank you again, I really appreciate your help.

I'm not sure I even understand your question

If your current job/tech job are one & the same thing, and your new job offer is NOT NOC 0, A or B, how can you make up the "missing" month to get a year's CEC?

I'm really not understanding what you mean, sorry.

Work experience for CEC is not required to be continuous, but must be within the last three years:

Sorry, I think I'm just flustered as it's all time sensitive.

I am currently in Management, so in NOC 0 and have been in this job for almost 11 months. The tech job I did a little while ago and was in that job for over just over 2 months, hence why if the tech job counts, I already have my 12 months covered.

My new job is not in a NOC level, hence why it wouldn't contribute to residency at this time.

I'm looking for advice as to whether I can rely on that tech job so I can quit my current NOC 0 job and be confident that I still have my 12 months skilled work covered. Therefore, being able to take my dream career.

OR would it be best to stick the current job out to ensure I have 12 months for sure.

Like I said, it sounds like an easy decision but I am so unhappy in my current job and then this offer is my dream job.

So, if I understand correctly, you have 10 months (up until today) in Canada at noc 0, and sometime within the past 36 months, 2 months in Canada at noc B?

There's a fairly detailed outline here:
Canadian Experience Class selection criteria - Qualifying work experience

which indicates that your experience is acceptable.

Im not sure why you don't just stick it out in your current job (if PR is really important to you) until your application is in and accepted? What points do you currently have - including CEC?
