PR application acknowledgement timescale?
Hi,
I wonder if you good and knowledgeable BE folk could help with a quick question?
The CIC website gives indicative times for processing PR applications. My question is a little different - what is a reasonable time for their acknowledging the application (either to give a reference number confirming you're in the system or advising that it is deficient in some way)?
I submitted a PR application (Canadian Experience Class) a month ago. It was sent by courier and I have an electronic signature confirming safe receipt in Ottawa.
I'm assuming one month is too early to contact them, but how long is a "reasonable" time to wait?
Thanks in anticipation.

It usually takes around 3-4 months to get your PER/NER as a rough guide.

I sent an FSW2 app and well it goes to the same place as the CEC so should give you a rough idea. it was received 26th May at CIO Sydney. I got PER 17th Sept, so you could be waiting a few months yet before you get any sort of acknowledgement.

Thanks for the replies.
(My particular interest/concern is that my son will be starting university in September 2015 and there is obviously a big difference in fees/financial support if you have PR status, as distinct from not and being classed as an international student.)

We submitted our PR application at beginning of September, got our fees taken off end of Oct, AOR on 7th of Nov and medicals requested on the 11th Nov.

We paid our fees via bankers draft, so aren't sure if the cheque has been cashed. I could find out, but assumed CIC would routinely cash the cheques and so this would have no significance.
Thanks.

Wow, that seems incredibly quick (and good to hear). If it's not too personal a question, I assume you're not in a special category (such as doctors) where there is some fast-track process?

We haven't put any significance on the speed of the medical request as I'm assuming once we do the medical we won't hear anything for a long, long time.
Does the fact that you have proof of a PR application being processed change the fees? Or are you just meaning to set the counter from that date so to speak? Seeing the fees come off it was just nice to know somebody had actually even opened the envelope.lol

Hello I'm sorry to jump in on a thread, but is it the case that when you receive AOR, you can apply for bridging permit? Or has this changed?
So if you have a 1 year Lmia/ wp, you can quite possibly do it without needing another Lmia?

Re: PR application acknowledgement timescale?
But if it's one of the qualifying programs (FSW/CEC/PNP), then yes, a BOWP can be applied for either when the AOR is obtained, or nomination is if it's a PNP app.
So it's perfectly possible to keep working after a one year TWP, as long as you apply for PR or PNP pretty quickly after arriving and it's a program that will process it in time.

Re: PR application acknowledgement timescale?
If you're still planning on applying under the AB PNP with your husband as principal applicant, then a year's TWP wouldn't be long enough and you wouldn't get a BOWP in time. Current processing times for truck drivers nomination via the AB PNP are 'at least 15 months', so you'd need a 2nd year's TWP if he wanted to carry on working.

Sorry, I've just had a quick look at your previous threads to see which program you'd be applying under and I may have given you false hope!

Re: PR application acknowledgement timescale?
Gosh I find this so confusing, okay, so we won't get bowp in time, I get that, so we would go visitsor status, or come back home while waiting for decision, but there is option to apply for another wp, is there? And we'd need another Lmia im assuming!
Thanks so much

Do note though, that you'd only qualify for a BOWP if you're on a TWP, they're not applicable to those on visitor visas or living outside of Canada.
