Port of entry
Hi folks,
Awesome news in that I finally received my WP today!
Thanks to people on this board meeting go have been beyond amazing!
I have a quick question about POE. How long does it take to get through with a family (who need to apply for their study permits and open work permit)?
We are flying to Halifax via Toronto so I’m guessing that Toronto will be my POE. I want to get a connecting flight that day without the added extra cost of hotel etc in toronto. How long will I need in between flights? Will 4 hours be enough?
Thanks folks.
Adam

Pretty quick in terms of processing but is highly dependent on how many other applicants are waiting in secondary for processing and what time of day you land (there are more agents during normal business hours).

Re: Port of entry
It depends on many factors.
1. When will you be arriving in Toronto?
2. What day will you be arriving? Mid week is quieter (Tues-Thu)
3. What time of year will you be arriving? Outside the peak season July-Aug? During school or public holidays?
We landed on THURSDAY 14th September at 5:30pm in the evening. We collected luggage, processed COPR, got a SIN issued and documented Goods to follow all within 90 minutes. That was with very little waiting.
If you have a connecting flight, I would say 4 hours is you absolute minimum to be safe.
Trust me, you will have more things to worry about than adding the worry of missing a connecting flight.
I would get the earliest flight out of the UK to keep all your options open.

Actually he wants to go to YHZ so being diverted there would help him. If the flight to YYZ is cancelled or diverted to YUL then he may encounter problems. It would suck even more if diverted to JFK and has no ESTA

ORD could be a possibility too. Something to ponder on the way over eh! The lottery of where are we landing?

We arrived on a Sunday (Sept 7th) around 5pm and it took about 2.5hrs from getting to the immigration "room" at Pearson.
