Default Please help - Legal Change of Name - Implications for PR card

Hi

I have recently changed my legal name in my home country. Do I have to also change my PR card now, and what happens if I travel outside Canada and return, and do not receive an updated PR card in the meantime?

Thank you!

What other document(s) are you using to travel i.e. passport. Has that been changed to your new name so is also different from your PR card.
Is it a change due to marriage as a marriage certificate can be also used to prove a change of name has occurred.
Depending how long until the PR card expires you would have to get a new one especially if travelling and other documents have a different name.

Apply for, renew or replace a permanent resident card

Thankyou for your reply, Former Lancastrian!!

Yes, passport. I will be changing the name on that soon also.

Change was due to marriage, but marriage was a couple of years ago. I changed birth cert in home country and will be changing passport too.

My PR card is in my maiden name. My PR card expires in 2 years.

Do you know what I should do? If I have to change my PR card, and it doesn't come in time, does this mean I am not allowed to travel? We have Christmas plans in the UK.

It doesn't mean you can't travel it just means potential problems when trying to board your flight to Canada as PR card will have different name to Passport and will the airline staff accept it with proof of marriage certificate.

Read this link for urgent processing
Urgent processing of a permanent resident card

The other option is flying back via the USA on a valid ESTA and then driving back to Canada or have someone pick you up.

I won't comment on having 2 years to have changed it
