Hello just arrived in this site and am currently due to leave for Halifax on 4th May with wife and two kids.We have a house rented already in Waverley as wife has managed to get job and are arriving with documents to gain wp at the airport.Have been in contact with immigration at Halifax and have assured us we can do this.Due to the time limits we are already ready to go with house sold last year.Has anyone done this

Hello, and welcome to the BE forum.

Several members of this forum have been successful in applying for their work permits at their ports of entry. Still, I suggest you read the Wiki article called WP : Where to apply, because applying for a work permit at your POE is not entirely without risk.
