Hi,

First post here. I have scoured the internet to try and find out more information on the actual application process for an ICT visa. I have an employer that wants to transfer my common-law partner to their Canadian office. How do they apply for the ICT visa? How long will the process take? We won't want it to be effective until March 2018.

We are wanting to transfer from the UK.

That kind of immigration is usually handled by the employer rather than being lead by you.

Providing the person meets the criteria of the ICT its pretty straightforward getting a work permit. Many companies have their own in house legal section to help out.

Are you UK citizens? If so, then you simply apply at the airport when you arrive. The employer needs to give you all of the relevant company info and supporting documents, as per the Wiki article about ICT TWP's - Intra-Company Transfer-Canada : British Expat Wiki

Which category will you be applying under? If it's specialised knowledge then expect the application to be scrutinised more heavily, so make sure you've plenty of proof he's eligible under that category.

Hi Christmas, thanks for the reply. We are both UK citizens. I read that the employer needs to register through the CIC employer portal and send an offer of employment to IRCC for approval, then my partner would apply for the work permit under the offer of employment number that the employer set up. Is that the wrong way to go about it?

They need to file and pay the employer compliance and offer of employment form with CIC prior to you arriving and applying for your work permit. It is for this that they need to be registered with CIC, if they aren't already.

This is not an approval thought. A decision is made at the POE by the CBSA officer.

Nothing much you can do about it though, most of this process is down to the employer.
