Default Hello from Newby struggling with EE profile

Hey everyone, nice to be here

I'm sure some of my story will be familiar to you. My final destination would ideally be British Columbia.

My primary job focus and NOC code is 2224 Wildlife and Conservation but I have a lot of admin experience and a couple of unevaluated qualifications for this. I have looked at specific province governments for wildlife jobs and have seen a couple and have applied for lots of jobs already without success.

I have received an ineligible EE profile even after receiving good IELTS results and having my degree verified by WES. I think that my two best options are to gain a PNP or a job offer. I am coming up short of points on Manitoba's PNP by 2 points and similar with Saskatchewan.

My husband will come to Canada with me but is adamant that he won't help me by paying for his IETLS or by having his qualifications verified. I am 42, so my age is against me also.

I am desperate to get to Canada and a bit obsessed really, I needed a friend or link to Manitoba to be able to submit my expression of interest. I have applied for loads of jobs but I realise this may be futile and I am going to Manchester to the Workingin Expo job fair but wondered if this might be a waste of time too?

I am even trying to rustle up any distant relatives I may not have previously known about in Canada I am so serious about getting there.

I am a bit at the end of my tether and would really appreciate some advice from people that have been through it.

Thank you so much in advance xx

Best wishes,

Jo

So Im guessing you won't be withholding any activities that are normal during a marriage
How serious is he about going to Canada if not willing to pay for IELTS?
At the end of the day you will need to meet the minimum criteria for any route to PR status.

Now when it really gets desperate then dump the husband and get married to a Canadian There again some dreams cannot always be achieved.

Hahaha let's just say it has been a difficult time actually I am not too concerned whether he does or not, then it would just be me and my son.
It is a very awkward situation as I want is so badly and he is very weary about leaving family etc. I am planning on a holiday to see if that may make him feel any different.
I guess I just wanted to see if anyone had actually had any success with job hunting while still in the UK, it seems very unlikely for me.

If I met a Canadian who would have me I wouldn't think twice :P

Thank you for your reply, it has been nice to speak to someone with a sense of humour

If you are serious, not that easy when a child is concerned. You would need permission to remove the child from the UK, either from the other parent or from a court (this is hard and expensive).

I can see many pitfalls from the situation you describe. Personally, for a move to work, both need to be committed to it. If one hates it and the other loves it, where to next?

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.
I know what you mean, it is a very difficult situation. I would prefer us both to be fully committed, hence the holiday. However, you only live once and this is what I would really like for my family. But I understand it just might not happen for us, but I'm not ready to give up yet.
Best wishes,
Jo

Yep, as said above, you can't just move with your son - if your husband doesn't agree you'll have the choice of staying in the UK or leaving your son behind.

But on the assumption that you can convince your husband, then PNP etc might not be any use to you anyway, as it sounds like you're not even eligible to enter the EE pool (for most PNPs you have to be in the pool to start with). A job offer will help with points, but if you don't have specialist skills, I'm not sure an employer will happily pay $1000, go through lots of paperwork/hassle and wait months for you to start work in all honestly.

I think the first thing to do is work out why you're not eligible under EE. What is your highest level of education (degree?), how many years of skilled work experience do you have & what amount did you put as funds available?

Hi there,

Thank you for your reply. I have a bachelor's which has been evaluated, and 2 years in my current NOC code but in the past 15 years I have different NOC code experience. My IELTS results were good. I won't have completed my masters till 2019, this wont make much difference to mt score as i will have lost points for my age again and by then my IELTS will have run out. For the FSW EE I think I'm about 2 points short which my husbands test would help, I know. The manitoba PNP or Saskatchewan PNP doenst require an EE first, I don't think? which is why I tried for them but was 2 and 1 point short for these.

Thanks again,

Jo

For work experience you can use any skilled work experience not just those years in your current NOC code.

I guess you are not scoring the required 67 to qualify for FSW. Have a go at calculating your points using the link below. Are you getting at least 67?

To be eligibile for a PNO scheme you must typically also qualify for the federal programme. The PNP is really just a way of lifting your CRS points so that you are selected out of the EE pool

Selection factors: federal skilled workers

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I think I'm getting a bit confused with my NOC's and experience.
I scored 65 on the FSW calculator, thank you for the link though.
I'm feeling quite disheartened, it seems like I'll never be offered a job by a Canadian employer and can't up my points. Do you think it might be beneficial to network face to face on a visit?
Best wishes,
Jo

Networking face to face is much better. Employers must try to hire a Canadian or PR first. If those efforts have been unsuccessful, they could apply for approval to hire a foreigner, the cost to the employer is $1000. Since the LMIA program came into force, applications have dropped by around 70% or so. If you have skills not available in Canada, the chances are better. I would discount govt jobs, hard to get into, lots of competition. Conservation officers in Canada are Peace officers, need police experience or training and PR, or citizenship to be successful. Depending on your quals and experience, reforestation companies might be worth looking at.

From what you have said in your posts, it seems you may have bigger concerns to deal with first. Unless the family is committed, it is a disaster waiting to happen. I took it you might be prepared to leave your spouse and go it alone, or maybe jesting? If this is the case, lots of issues there to deal with before looking for a job and considering immigration.

When I sponsored my OH, although I was working for a Canadian company and living in Canada, if she was not given approval to move to Canada, I was prepared to move to the UK, without question.

Thanks so much for this.
I'm going to keep researching and get prepared for a visit, obviously, I understand that you must not mention this when entering the country for a holiday.
Take care.

HI JoDe

i sense your frustration with the situation! Tho I agree with Aviator's last points

I am now 51 years old, female and was just like you - desperate to get back to Canada after i left my heart there 13 years ago!

I have just last week returned from a RECCE there and still very much intend to return there as a permanent resident - yes at my age! which i thought was a no-no for Canada

back then i was a single parent of youngsters, divorced and their dad was playing silly buggers! (i' m being diplomatic here!!)
When i first visited Canada years ago with my sons, i found CBSA very abrupt with me and with almost an accusatory tone of kidnapping as their dad was not with us!
after returning to UK and with passion to return, i realised that their dad would have made it very difficult for me to take them to Canada and/or CBSA would probably have stopped me if i didnt have his permission!!

now they are adults, and still don't want to join me in my plans for immigrating to Canada, i sold my house last year, just returned with a view to get back ASAP for good! I'm hoping they change their minds and join me at a later date, but for now, i'm going after my dream

i suggest you hang fire and deal with pressing personal issues first as i guess they will come back to haunt you!

if your husband gets resentful of you proceeding with your dream and chooses to stay, he potentially may use your son against you and you will be FORCED to make a choice in terms of what happens with your son, and it sounds unlikely he would give you the WRITTEN permission needed to gain entry with your son

i am now a free woman to do as i please, and whilst i have met someone, he is happy for me to go after my dream.

by the way, the border entry is not as scary as it seems and you hardly speak to security as a lot of the system is now computerised.

i will be posting some of my recent experiences soon when i get a chance

enjoy your visit!

Hi,

It was lovely to hear from you. I think it's brilliant that you want to go back and would love to hear about it. I take it you lived in Canada previously and how did you come to be there if you don't mind me asking? How can you get back there?

I understand that I am very impatient and somewhat impetuous but once I had paid to take my IELTS and to have my degree evaluated I wanted to get there as soon as, these things aren't cheap, a small price to pay to achieve your dream though I know.

Jack Haskew, the immigration firm has said that he can help me and has helped people in worse circumstances, this is presuming my husband agrees to come, but I am weary of employing anyone in case I still cannot get in to the EE pool. I do not have a lot of disposable income until my house is sold.

Thank you for your reply and advice and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Best wishes,

Jo

Put simply, if you are only scoring 65 as a FSW, then you are not eligible to enter the EE pool anyway - and an immi consultant can't change that. You'll either need to look at increasing your points somehow, or another visa route i.e. study permit, work permit etc. But you can do that on your own, I can't see any reason to hire somebody tbh (particularly if they're telling you they can get you in when you don't seem to be eligible at the mo).

Best of luck.
