eTA with criminal record. Not heard back and travelling soon
Hi there
I filled out my eTA application in January in preparation for travel on the 22nd of March (this month).
On the 15th of February I was finally instructed to provide a police check form, which I already had ready to go to speed things up.
Since the 15th of Feb when I uploaded the police check form I've heard nothing. I filled out the 'Case Specific Query' form over the weekend but still nothing.
Can I still travel considering the grace period? And perhaps bring the form for a border officer to consider?
P.s. conviction 9 years ago as a minor for assault.
Thanks

It will depend on if the airline will let you board without eTA. CBSA have been instructed to allow entry for those who arrive without eTA but nobody yet knows how the airlines will deal with someone at the departure airport who doesn't have eTA when they check in.

I have to send more documents but the CIC haven't updated my account despite messages being sent to them via their webforms and even a phone call from the UK to the CIC who instructed me to send the issue in via webform, to which I get no reply. I've got until April 1st to submit the documents they want but literally cannot do it because of their error which they don't seem to be in a hurry to resolve.

Well yes there is that little gem to deal with if it is disclosed on arrival.
How a CBSA officer would deal with it is like asking how long is a piece of string.
Im pretty sure many will be applying for eTA and getting it and then on arrival in Canada will be refused entry for being inadmissible and sent back.

If you were convicted as a minor in juvenile court then CBSA will not even look at this so if that is your only conviction then you are not inadmissible
Inadmissibility may not be based on an offence designated as a contravention under the Contraventions Act (http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-38.7/index.html) or an offence under the Young Offenders Act Act [A36(3)(e)].

How old were you at the time ? Were you sentenced ? How is this marked on your police check ? As, 'no live trace' or what ?
This could have a bearing on the outcome.

Hello,
Just wondering what the outcome of this was please? My husband currently in similar situation, refused eta due to 10 year old caution, submitted acro with no live trace and heard nothing since. We've applied for subject access report and will upload when arrives but unsure as to what else we can do?
Thanks Hannah

Could he apply for his American Visa ?
When I did it, it cost sixty quid and a trip to the American Embassy in London to stand in several queues all day.
Nevertheless, I still got my American Visa, valid for ten years which I recently renewed. So, no more ESTA for me.
If your husband applies for his American visa now, at least the process is in train so to speak.
Rather than waiting and waiting. You could do it in tandem whilst waiting for the outcome of your current application.
Good luck.

Isn't this about the new Canadian eTA, not the American ESTA?

Re: eTA with criminal record. Not heard back and travelling soon
any update on what happened on this?
I've travelled to a Canada twice in last 3 years (prior to ETA being introduced) just booked flights for 3 weeks time and realised need ETA failed auto approve due to yes on precious criminal offences/convictions over 15 years ago (minor offences). Have applied for ACRO today on premium service which ETA service has asked for but they also want copy of court judgement/disposition - I have no idea what this is? Any one have any ideas? Also has anyone any experience of timescale from initial ETA app to sending ACRO and approval - did you have to book an immigration appt - did they grant an ETA or a visa?
Had same problems with USA a few years back - failed ESTA - applied for ACRO - booked immigration appt and luckily got approved same day and passport was back with me 2 days later with a 10 year visa in it. That cut it fine but I have a feeling I won't be so lucky this time.
Begining to wish had never disclosed on USA ESTA app, offences are classed as C in U.K. so not serious, likelihood of being stopped was probably low but didn't want the anxiety of it all as if stopped would be a nightmare and being as disclosed on ESTA thought I better for the ETA
