Default Criminal record check and reference letters

My OH is applying for jobs in Canada and we want to be prepared for if he is successful. We are looking to get a LMIA, TWP at POE, then eventually apply for PNP in whichever province he's working in. So:

1 - at what point will we need employer reference letters from the past 10 years? Would this be for his TWP, employer, PNP app?

2 - shall he get his criminal record check now, as potential employers may want it (or need it, I'm not sure) and if he did get it now, am I right in thinking he will have to get another if successful for when he applys for his TWP?

Thanks

1. No idea, but probably good to get. See if you can get them to have job specific duties listed in similar language to a canadian NOC skill code. May come in handy

2. Considered valid for 12 months. Some employers want to see it, especially any where the worker may be in charge of minors (teacher, healthcare, bus driver, even as a volunter sports coach etc)

1. Only needed for PR apps.

2. Sorry, but to add to the above - police certs must be less than 3 months old when submitted to CIC, so although ACPO say they're valid for a year, they're not for Canadian immigration purposes.

HTH.

Ok thanks.
He will try and get them, because it would be a bigger hassle trying to get them whilst in Canada, and god knows how long it would take.

Think we will leave the record check for now then seeing as it's only valid for 3 months.

Thanks again
