Unhappy bad news from home... can you rush an app?

OK.. so Ive just had some very bad new tonight, my mom called from Canada and let me know she just found out she has stomach cancer

Im feeling every horrible emotion under the sun, including like Im the farthest away from home Ive ever been in my life.

Unfortunately she wont know the details of how bad it is or what her treatment will entail just yet. she has a cat scan on friday and the radiologist is supposed to get in touch soon to discuss treatment. but I just know I really need to be home. Sooner rather than later.

Does anyone know if there is any way of "rushing" an application? We just found out a couple of weeks ago that Im approved to sponsor my husband, and I assume (or hope) that his part of the application has been sent to London.

My mind is a bit of a jumble right now, but if anyone has any suggestions on what I can or should be doing, it would all be greatly appreciated. anything to help me filter my thoughts!

many thanks

Valentina

Hi,
sorry to hear you have had bad news from back home. I know exactly how you feel, and being so far from home makes one worry even more. I highly doubt immigration will do anything to "hussle up" the app, but as the canadian you can leave UK anytime you wish. As you have already been approved to sponsor your spouse it won't take long for the visa to come thru. Took 5 months for my husband to get his visa and that is longer then most. I would say don't worry but that isn't going to happen. Many of us have had to come home in a hurry, and know the pain and frustration you are feeling.
If you have the option of coming home now and can financially do it maybe it would put your mind at ease.

I do hope things get better for you and your family, keep us updated eh

thanks for your kind reply... just an update and a few questions if anyone can help:

Ive decided to go ahead home to Canada to be with my mom, so me and our baby daughter will travel mid March (assuming I dont hear any further bad news from my moms tests etc..) and my husband will stay in the UK and wait to hopefully hear that his part of the application has been approved. I checked ECAS today and it still doesnt say anything else except that the sponsorship application was approved Jan 13, Im trying not to read anything negative into the fact that nothing else has shown up yet.

As you can imagine my mind is full to the brim, so I have a few questions...

• We are going to write a "case specific email" this week, just to let them know the circumstances and see if they would push things along for us (wishful thinking I know, but we have to try). As we havent got any more information on my husbands application (client ID number) I assume I will just write it under my name as the sponsor and use the receipt number, or should I use one of the numbers they included in the letter they posted to me saying my part had been approved?

• Would I need to let them know that my address is changing as the sponsor ?

• I assume that my "OHIP" (provincial health care) that I had when I was living in Canada is no longer valid, so that my daughter and I will need to apply for health/travel insurance for at least a 3 month period and my husband will have to apply for his own later when he knows he can travel.
I got a couple of quotes, the cheapest being (for me and the baby only) £141.50 for the "deluxe" package. does this sound reasonable to anyone else who has looked into this?

• My husband is going to ship all of our boxes approx 2 weeks after my daughter and I leave, and then he is going to move in with his mom until he gets approval. I know that putting all our goods in his name would have saved us paying taxes and duty (I ended up paying on stuff I shipped over to the UK because I didnt know about registering my goods with the govt before I left) we got a quote for about £1100 for 30 boxes/cartons, I thought this sounded ok-ish, if anyone could let me know what they think of our plan and if Im missing anything obvious I could or should be doing!

any thoughts or advice on anything that I should be doing... I know this is a move that I would have been doing anyway in the future, but now Ive got a bit of a rushed deadline and Im worried Im overlooking things. Ive printed out the to-do list from the wiki section and so far its been helpful but very daunting. Im not sure i will be able to do it all before I have to travel.

thanks for listening/reading! as always, any advice greatly appreciated. Im sure I will have many more questions shortly

So sorry to hear your news. This happened to me last year but the reverse Canada to UK.

All I can comment on regarding your questions, is the one about paying duties and taxes on your goods. If you are a returning Canadian, and have been out of the country for over a year, you wont pay any, if you can prove that you have been away for over a year. So bring letters from employers, bank statements, rental agreements anything that will prove how long you have been away.

Good luck.

Hi,

Sorry to hear the news about your Mum, I know how awful it is to be in such a position. The only advice I can offer you is to not panic and to not rush things. Your Mum will have to have tests and a treatment plan arranged, that's when you know how much to panic. For now take a deep breath, let the news sink in and call your Mum as often as possible.

I have been living with the Mum and cancer thing over my head for the last 5 years, my Mum is a bit of a medical miracle at the moment, however the Doc's have just told her that the chemo is doing her more harm than good and we need to think about quality of life now. Number one on her bucket list is making it out here for a visit.

One thing I have learned in the last 5 years is that panicking and stressing doesn't help anything. I really hope they find a good treatment plan for your Mum and she stays strong and positive that she can get through this nightmare, knowing that you are going home soon will help her. You need to be strong and healthy and positive for your Mum (try not to look up stuff about the cancer on the internet, it doesn't help).

Have huge hugs from me, your in my thoughts.

hiya
You can write an email but personally I wouldn't hold my breath as they will only say you are able to be with your mother, and many couples are separated for many months and some years before they can finally be together. Chances are your hubby will have his visa before you leave (or shortly after) if you have been approved already. Many spousal visas are coming in at less then 4 months.

You are correct your OHIP will take 3 months to kick in for all you, so best to get a good insurance. My husbands cost under 200 quid, can't remember right number.

As already noted as long as you can prove you were out of country more then a year then put everything in your name but when you land, just fill in the items to follow list and hand it over.

I wouldn't bother about changing addy for immigration as you have signed what needs to be signed and the only thing that came in my name was the spousal sponsor. Everything else came in my husbands name, so unless other wise advised by a specialist in here, leave well enough alone.

Only just saw this! I am so sorry to hear about your mom - even harder for you when you are so far away! How typical that you are having problems with your application payment as well!

I hope all moves quickly for you, so that at least you and hubby won't need to be apart for too long!

I'm sorry you've got so much to worry about. I hope your mom is okay. Best of luck with your move. It's unfortunate that you can't go over as a family but you'll all be together soon after. Big hugs to you!

Valentina, I'm so sorry to hear about your mum - I've only just read this thread now! What a nightmare for you!

All I can say is what some of the others on here have already mentioned - try not to worry too much, easier said then done though. I'm sure that London has recieved your application as you were ahead of me - it's probably just simply a case of the website not being updated yet. They only update it once a week so I'm sure you'll find something out next week!

Keep us all updated on your mum. I'm thinking of you all and I will pray for your mum too, if you don't mind. Big hugs xx

I am really sorry to hear the news about your Mum.

I just wanted to add that the PR part of the Sponsorship Application is assigned it's own B file number - so if you are checking under the B file number associated with the Sponsor - the info relating to the PR applicant will not show up.

If you e-mail London with the sponsor's details - full name, date of birth and B file number, and your Hubs details - full name, date and place of birth - they will e-mail you back with his B file number so you can track it.

Sorry to hear about your mum, that's tough, but you know, you're mum needs you all to be strong and keep your spirits up, positivity goes a long way, even when the feelings are low. I'm sure she appreciates you being there a great deal!

FYI: ETFS offer a good policy. My husbands sister works in insurance and she sourced a good policy through a colleague that would offer us what we needed for the 3 months that we enter Canada, plus more if you need it! Check it out, I think it's reasonable too.

Good luck with everything!

Im trying to keep positive and not think the most negative both with my mom and this application but its been hard. I go up and down. everyone has been so supportive. thanks again, I will let you all know what happens.
