OK, so don't know if anyone can help, but hoping.

I know my Hungarian tax number, but only because I have it written in a diary, is there anyway to check it is correct or any document that should have it on?

I have a tax card. I think you can check it at the local tax office, or perhaps even the town hall? The car tax goes via the town hall so I am guessing they also know your tax number :-)

You get a tax bill some months after buying a house, that bill should have the number on it.

unfortunately I didn't buy the house in my name.
and I have never worked here.
problem is old age and stupidity, I wrote down the ta number because I knew it would be useful to have but I can't for the life of me remember what form it was on, except it must have been one that I didn't get a copy of.

I was going to the local tax office to ask them if they can enter the number into their system and check that it does relate to me, but of course this is Hungary and like most government offices it is only open 4 hours a day!
So will ask next week.
