As I recall - with due deference to the occasional 'senior moment' we got ours at the local TB office (national insurance office)

If you transfer to the Hungarian Health System (say as a retiree) you receive a TAJ card but your EHIC card is still issued by the UK. This comes from a different office and is actually valid in every European country except Hungary but should be produced if seeking treatment in the UK.

Read the post again, what was said is that if you are a UK retiree living in Hungary and want an EHIC card, then you will have to get it via the UK, this card will be just the same as if it had been issued in Hungary, therefore usable in all EU countries except for Hungary, the same apples to all UK expat RETIREES living in any other EU country, they have to get their EHIC cards from the UK, and, yes they are usable in the UK because they are issues as if they were issued from the country of residence. IT ONLY APPLIES TO PEOPLE OF UK RETIREMENT AGE, in all other cases you get your EHIC card from your country of residence.
