Good idea re the gas!
And you surely know already that gas is horribly expensive on the motorways - and cheaper in Austria generally.
I sometimes drive via Passau and then leave the Autobahn in Stuben for Schärding wher you find many gas stations - one near the Aldi, fully automatic, pay by card only ...

PS:
Those hills south of Passau are quite steep, but the snow service should be ok and afaik the roadworks are essentially finished there.

No, weeks later, I fell off the side of a fast moving boat onto an incompressible surface, the sea which hasn’t affected my pride, but my backs quite sore.

Not really, 12 degrees is officially south of that belt which is important for insurance. We do see some passing north of us every year but only once a decade about does one touch us..

The next problem will be flooding, now the thaw is on in earnest. My courtyard in Croatia is already under a couple of inches of water and there is still loads of snow left on the roofs. I also just discovered that both my wellies let in water. The logs I should have been using had so much snow on them that I started using the logs meant for next winter, which were in the barn. The vertical planks that form the side of the barn have gaps for ventilation. You would think that was ideal for seasoning the logs but it means the snow can blow in. The logs got covered in snow, which I was brushing off each day from the ones I was cutting up and splitting. Now that snow has melted and the logs are soaking wet.
