Default Cornflour but not as we know it!!

There are many things I can live without but cornflour just isn't one of them and having spent months searching for the elusive thickener and baking essential, I thought I had finally struck gold! Tesco had row upon row of "kukorica liszt" which translates as cornflour, I bought 8 bags! As those of you who have done the same will know, on opening the bag, the yellow fluffy powder inside bore no resemblance to "our" cornflour. So, two questions, what can you make with the "kukorica liszt" and has anyone found anywhere, apart from Budapest, that sells cornflour.

hi, i have not found any cornflour yet but if you mix a spoon of plain flour with a bit of tejfol then add liquid from what you want to thicken this works just as well.

Thanks Richard for your kind offer and Hotpot for your suggestion. I currently have a couple of packets which where brought over from the UK but I honestly thought you would be able to buy it here. When I run out of cornflour, I do use flour for thickening though I mainly use cornflour for custard and shortbread and substituting with flour won't work. Guess I will need to continue asking family to bring it over

I had the same problem! You need to buy "kemenyito" (apologies for lack of accents due to UK keyboard). The Dr Oetker brand seems common- I have some Haas brand. It is with the other flours. It is cornflour as those from the UK would understand it.
