Default Buying online.

Awhile ago there was a thread on 'What do you miss (living in Hungary)' I didn't comment at the time because the answer for me was 'Nothing really' I decided to live here and accept some things are not available.

But I have just decided 'Online shopping'

Being retired and lazy I spend my days reading books and making models, Wooden boats, railways etc (second childhood).
I order everything from a large model shop in Budapest using their online order system, but then I receive at least 4 e-mails and always get one phone call, and the goods are then dispatched Cash on Delivery.

(I can only pay with a credit card if I actually go to the store.)

Today because they do not stock an item I need I ordered it from a UK model shop.....3 minutes!!! item ordered, credit card details passed and received e-mail that item will be in the post this evening.

And this attitude seems to pervade everything in Hungary, why do Hungarians insist on making things so much more complicated and time sapping than they need to be.
So I am missing the relatively uncaring British workers who just do their job efficiently but with the minimum of interest or enthusiasm. :-)

I think it's a cultural thing. There's been numerous times when I have flapped my arms in despair (spelling?) ...... nuff said ..... I've clamped my tongue in order not to say anything.

I do order some things on credit card but I prefer cash on collection as it avoids the extra security stuff where you get redirected to your bank and have to enter secure codes, the 4th 8th & 11th digit of your password or whatever. I suppose it will just get more and more complicated as they have to find new ways to tackle the internet criminals and their increasingly sophisticated hacking methods. A lot of banks these days send you a security code by text message when you are logging in for internet banking. At my places in Scotland and Croatia I can't get a mobile phone signal so I am excluded from internet banking. The same applies to people who don't have a mobile phone.

I do miss cheques but I think their days are numbered even in UK.

Online next day delivery, I love it! Being busy, I tend to leave things to the last minute so anywhere that I can order before 4pm and have delivered next day is a godsend

Having bought a couple of things via ebay - I find it very annoying that paypal won't accept my UK credit card (for purchases from UK firms) because I have a Hungarian address - forced to use my Hungarian card - the exchange rate is HORRIBLE

Agree with that one Peter, I actually complained a couple of years ago about how dismal the rate was! Not that it did any good.

Ah, that happened to me too but I thought it was just something I did wrong. I think I ended up bypassing Ebay and dealing direct with the seller, who was a business anyway.

REALLY! Rural. you must be living in a different Hungary from me :-)
I do have one regular delivery guy who is always here next day at 7:45 but all the others tend to be 3 or 4 days at best.
A few months ago I ordered goods from a medical supply company and it took them 2 weeks to deliver!
