The Big Questions

What did you bring with you when you moved to Hungary?
What items do you wish you had not of brought?
Likewise what items do you wish you had?
What has been the biggest suprise since living in Hungary?
What has been the biggest shock?
What do you wish you had of done better?
What is the main bit of advice you would give anyone moving to Hungary?
Many thanks and really look forward to hearing your replies :-)

Re: The Big Questions
What did you bring with you when you moved to Hungary?
A caravan Couldn't have survived the renovation without it. The house was habitable by Hungarian standards but the caravan provided extra accommodation and more importantly a warm shower and toilet. Oh, and the swimming pool, couldn't survive the summer without it.
What items do you wish you had not of brought?
Nothing, many goods are not that cheap in Hungary.
Likewise what items do you wish you had?
Mainly tools, dishwasher (white goods aren't cheap) and more books.
What has been the biggest surprise since living in Hungary?
The weather, the helpfulness of our villagers, the general friendliness of the majority of Hungarians. How cheap it is to eat out, look out for the "Menus", away from the lakeside these can be found starting at 600ft for 3 courses.
What has been the biggest shock?
The Nationalism, the extent of the hatred towards the Roma. Also the number of British drink drivers, in a country with zero tolerance. The lack of customer service in certain stores and surly waiters.
What do you wish you had of done better?
Learnt more of the language before arriving, brought more tools and certain building materials from the UK, learnt how to butcher (as Hungarian cuts are nothing like ours).
What is the main bit of advice you would give anyone moving to Hungary?
Learn the language. Don't expect it to be a cheaper version of France or Spain. Learn about the history of the country. Accept there will be bad along with the good and enjoy your time here
